Sr Software Engineer, Search Growth

About the Role

The Search Growth team is responsible for building new features and experiences that take further what Search at Uber can do- enabling users to discover new experiences and offerings within the Uber app through intelligent suggestions and engaging journeys.. As a Sr Software Engineer on the Search Growth team, you will play a key role in delivering new and exciting features that will enrich the Search experience for our customers while furthering the impact of our businesses.

This is an exciting & impactful role with visibility and influence across all of Uber's businesses. The work you do will power experiences for Riders, Drivers, Couriers, and Eaters around the world. You'll collaborate with multiple mobile and backend teams to ensure our Search offers an experience that is intuitive, performant and magical.

What the Candidate Will Do

- Own: Lead the development of robust features to drive top of the line growth on our search stack. Own the solution from initial design to production deployment and monitoring.
- Influence: Contribute to the technical roadmap of the search ecosystem, ensuring our architecture remains flexible enough to support new features that scales search across multiple lines of businesses such as rides, eats, ads etc
- Lead: Mentor and guide peers & junior engineers, providing constructive technical leadership + encouraging a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
- Elevate: Conduct thorough design & code reviews ensuring high quality and elevating standards.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field-or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in backend development using modern programming languages, such as Go or Java.
- Familiar with A/B testing and experimentation.
- Demonstrated experience in setting the technical directions for projects, making architectural decisions and influencing cross-functional teams.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including ad operations, product, data science, and engineering to drive improvement and innovation in ad capabilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience supporting and mentoring other engineers, while fostering a collaborative, inclusive team culture.
- Knowledge of the search landscape, retrieval & ranking, search indices
- Familiarity with data and ML methodologies necessary to drive personalization and recommendations

For Canada-based roles: The base salary range for this role is CAD$173,000 per year - CAD$192,000 per year.
