About The Team
Our Grocery & Retail business is a startup within Uber, a team focussed on growth and innovation, but with the support and leverage of Uber's large global ridesharing and delivery businesses. We own the delivery of everything that isn't restaurant food - think groceries, essentials, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, beauty, and more... Many of the opportunities and challenges we face are new for Uber and require creative solutions that cater to different customers, but we're able to solve them because we care deeply#BuildwithHeart.
About the Role
This mission of this role is to drive stronger marketplace reliability for the Retail business in Japan, specifically focusing on dispatch efficiency in order to improve delivery times, reduce cost of delivery, and utilize the right supply for Retail use cases (e.g. expanding 4-wheel supply for heavy & bulky orders). Furthermore, this role will play an instrumental role in driving stronger marketplace reliability for launch & expansion cities, and improving courier quality and experience.
Your Impact in Role:
1. Own key business metrics like delivery time, delivery completion rate (expansion areas), courier defect rate.
2. Introduce new product features in the Japan market to improve delivery time/efficiency, increase batching rates, improve 4W supply utilization for heavy and bulky orders, etc.
3. Improve courier quality and platform experience for Retail orders.
The Experience You'll Bring:
1. Strong analytical and problem solving skillset
2. Strong communicator: adeptly pivots between solving problems locally with merchants and Sales teams, and collaborating with global operations and product teams on product go-to-market.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Strongly preferred to be bilingual in Japanese and English with knowledge of the Japan market.
2. Existing capability in SQL highly preferred; AI tools like Claude Code a plus.
