Sr Manager, Science, Autonomous Mobility & Delivery
About the Team

The Autonomous Mobility & Delivery team is at the forefront of this transformation, focusing on the marketplace dynamics and user experience of autonomous vehicles. We are currently running multiple pilots to integrate autonomous vehicles to power our mobility and delivery services, spearheading a groundbreaking product area that impacts partners, riders, eaters, drivers and the entire marketplace. As a science manager, you will be able to directly contribute to the roadmap of a future-looking transportation and delivery with revolutionary technology. As a Senior Science Manager on this team, you will lead a group of talented scientists to work on both strategic and pragmatic problems - from marketplace design and partner expansion to performance optimization and adoption. You'll directly contribute to the roadmap of a future-looking transportation and delivery ecosystem powered by revolutionary technology.
What you'll do
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of applied and data scientists focused on AV strategy (partner expansion, hybrid marketplace configuration) and AV adoption (performance, reliability, and integration).
- Drive technical direction in partnership with Engineering and Product through identifying opportunities, defining measurement frameworks, and building data-driven solutions and models to optimize AV deployment.
- Advance strategic thinking in marketplace and hybrid marketplace: act as a thought leader in marketplace design, optimization, and ML applications that balance AV and human supply to ensure efficiency and reliability.
- Avid problem solver with data insights: incl. develop production models, build data foundations for a rapidly evolving product area, guiding the Science and Data Engineering teams to establish instrumentation, observability, and analytical infrastructure.
- Influence strategy and communicate impact: collaborate cross-functionally and present insights, models, and recommendations to senior leadership, shaping Uber's broader AV roadmap.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields.
- Minimum 8 years of industry experience as an (Applied / Data) Scientist or equivalent (5+ years if holding a Ph.D. degree).
- Minimum 3 year of experience in managing a team of Applied / Data Scientists with Strong people leadership skills including growing and mentoring your team members.
- Experience with exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis and testing, causal analysis and ML model development.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark, working with large-scale data in production environments.
- Demonstrated bias to action and a track record of delivering impact in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Experienced in partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to execute decisions.
- Experience in tech or marketplace industries.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or other quantitative fields.
- Structured and independent thinking, with the ability to solve ambiguous problems independently.
- Entrepreneurial experience in building products from 0 to 1.
- Prior experience in autonomous systems, mobility, logistics, or marketplace optimization.
- Demonstrated ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with pragmatic, data-driven decision-making.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$241,000 per year - USD$268,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$241,000 per year - USD$268,000 per year.
