Sr Accountant

Yesterday San Francisco, CA

About the Role

We are looking to hire a highly motivated Senior Accountant, Lease Accounting to join our Global Accounting Team. In this role, you will be a key contributor to our lease accounting operations, owning end-to-end accounting for the company's lease portfolio under ASC 842. You will work closely with Workplace, Lease administration, Infrastructure, Legal, FP&A, Technical Accounting, and SEC Reporting teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. We are seeking a detail-oriented, technically strong individual who is passionate about leveraging AI tools and process automation to drive efficiency and challenge the status quo. This role requires excellent analytical skills, strong US GAAP knowledge, and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions in a fast-paced environment.

What you will do

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries for the full lease portfolio, including right-of-use (ROU) asset amortization, lease liability accretion, variable lease costs, and related accruals in compliance with ASC 842.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations for all lease-related balance sheet accounts and resolve reconciling items timely and accurately.
  • Maintain and update the lease accounting system (e.g., Lease Harbor or similar) to reflect new leases, modifications, terminations, and remeasurements.
  • Support the month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring all lease entries are complete and accurate within established close timelines.
  • Prepare lease-related financial statement disclosures and supporting schedules for quarterly and annual SEC filings (10-Q/10-K), coordinating with the SEC Reporting team.
  • Apply US GAAP (ASC 842) to new, modified, or complex lease arrangements and prepare technical accounting memos supporting conclusions and judgment areas.
  • Collaborate with the Workplace and Lease Administration teams to obtain lease agreements and relevant contract data, reviewing terms to determine proper accounting treatment.
  • Analyze period-over-period variances in lease-related accounts, investigate discrepancies, and clearly communicate findings to management.
  • Support internal and external audit requests by preparing audit schedules, responding to inquiries, and ensuring documentation is complete and audit-ready.
  • Identify and drive process improvement and automation opportunities within the lease accounting workflow - including the use of AI-powered tools, and workflow automation - to reduce manual effort and increase accuracy.
  • Assist with special accounting projects as needed, including system implementations, M&A lease integrations, and policy updates.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of operational accounting experience, including hands-on experience with lease accounting under ASC 842.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of US GAAP, with particular depth in ASC 842 lease accounting standards.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and close deliverables in a fast-paced corporate environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance and operating within an effective internal control environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Demonstrated interest in process improvement and a track record of identifying and implementing efficiencies in accounting workflows.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for applying AI and automation tools to accounting and finance processes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA certification or active CPA candidate preferred.
  • Big 4 or public accounting experience in audit/assurance, particularly with real estate or lease-intensive clients.
  • Experience with lease accounting software (e.g., Lease Harbor or similar).
  • Experience with Oracle, or other large-scale ERP systems.
  • Experience researching FASB Accounting Standards Codification and applying technical guidance to new transactions.
  • Experience participating in or leading system implementation within an accounting or finance function.
