Software Engineer II - Android

About the Role

The Engineer will join the Edge Platform team within the Business Platforms organization, a core platform team that underpins critical business-facing systems across Uber. The team owns and evolves foundational infrastructure including the API Gateway, Streaming Platform, media processing platforms and key mobile model components. This team is responsible for building highly reliable, scalable, and performant platform capabilities that enable product teams to move faster and operate at scale. This role is critical in shaping core platform architecture, ensuring consistency and resilience across services, and empowering downstream teams through robust, well-designed platform abstractions.

1. Design, build, and maintain high-quality Android applications to enhance the foundational components of the Uber Apps.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, data scientists, and other engineers.
3. Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
4. Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, and debugging to uphold high engineering standards.
5. Be actively involved in sprint planning sessions and project retrospectives to contribute to team development cycles and project completion.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
2. 3+ years of experience in Android development, with expertise in Java or Kotlin and a deep understanding of the Android SDK, architecture components, and design patterns.
3. Experience with mobile development tools like Android Studio and version control systems such as Git.

1. Proven ability to manage complex projects and provide technical direction for mobile engineering initiatives.
2. Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for developing user-centric applications.
3. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
