Senior Staff Engineer - Autonomous - Growth

Today San Francisco, CA

About the Role

The Autonomous Mobility & Delivery (AM&D) team is at a critical inflection point. Having proven with the first few partners, our focus is now on aggressively scaling the business globally. We are seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to be the technical architect of our growth engine.

You will be responsible for identifying and engineering the next generation of ridesharing and delivery business leveraging autonomous vehicles (AV). Your mission is to find the "white space" where AVs can unlock new business value that traditional vehicles cannot. This is a high-visibility role requiring a "Product-First" mindset, where you will lead rapid experimentation and build the cross-line-of-business (xLOB) product necessary to launch innovative use cases that grow Uber's business.

What You Will Do

  • 0-to-1 Product Incubation: Lead the technical discovery and rapid prototyping of new use cases that sit at the intersection of Autonomous Mobility and Delivery.
  • Growth Hacking the Marketplace: Use data-driven insights to identify inefficiencies and build technical MVPs that optimize the hybrid marketplace.
  • Technical Evangelism: Partner deeply with Product Managers, Designers, Science and Ops Leads to pitch and prove innovative AV experiences and products.
  • Cross-Pillar Synergy: Design technical frameworks that allow new use cases to scale across both the Mobility and Delivery stacks without redundant engineering effort.
  • High-Velocity Execution: Lead small "tiger teams" to prove business hypotheses through code, moving from ideation to production-ready MVP at high speed.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of proven experience in software engineering with a strong focus on product-driven development.
  • Product-Minded Engineering: A track record of shipping products from 0-to-1 that drove significant business growth or user engagement.
  • Systems Design: Strong expertise in building microservices and orchestrating complex workflows across disparate business domains.
  • Master Communicator: Exceptional ability to influence cross-functional partners and "sell" a technical vision to both engineers and executives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Entrepreneurial Background: Past experience as a startup founder, early-stage CTO, or lead of a corporate "innovation lab" or "growth team".
  • Fullstack Experience: Past experience as a fullstack engineer with experiences across various stacks. Experience with growth engineering, A/B testing at scale, or marketplace incentive modeling.
  • Rapid Prototyping: Proficiency in quickly stitching together APIs, data pipelines, and frontend surfaces to validate new product concepts.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$267,000 per year - USD$297,000 per year.

You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits. More details can be found at the following link https://www.uber.com/careers/benefits.
