Senior Staff Engineer

About the Role

The Identity org is responsible for all Identity functions that affect one of the core Uber assets - our users. Our solutions are used by all Uber products, Uber partner companies as well as Uber acquisitions. We build and operate the complete tech stack from user experience across web and mobile, common platform services, data storage, as well as common libraries and SDK. We have 120+ engineers spread across the Bay Area, Seattle, and Sao Paulo building Uber's highly usable, reliable, scalable, compliant, and secure systems. The nature of our solutions creates opportunities for Engineers to work across all Uber products and platform teams, as well as external partner companies.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

1. Solve strategically important multi-year large scale problems with compelling modular design choices, hands-on coding and reviews; improves, role models, and promotes coding best practices
2. Evangelizes and leads the adoption of standards and best practices within the organization including genAI
3. Foresees architectural problems and/or opportunities that the organization will face 1-2 years out. Works with engineering leadership to address them before they become an issue.
4. Make intelligent bets on high-impact innovations and uses good judgment to fail fast when necessary.
5. Design long-lasting engineering artifacts that reduces complexity, balances eng-wide migration cost, increases developer velocity, or improves efficiency and reliability.
6. Creates an inclusive environment to promote open communication and leverages the ideas/opinions of others from diverse perspectives and encourages team members to recognize their value.
7. Builds strategic relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g. engineers, product managers, designers, operations representatives) and external partners to deliver on organizational goals.

1. BS or equivalent in Computer Science, or related field. 10-years full-time Software Engineering work experience.
2. Designing and building large scale distributed systems, including launching and migrating a large backend platform to 100's of millions of users.
3. Customer facing Platforms/SaaS serving 100's of millions of customers

1. Identity and access management experience
2. Experience working with 1B+ user systems or products
3. Integrations connecting systems between scaled tech driven companies
4. Lead projects spanning across large organizations
