Senior Manager, Head of Industrial Relations ANZ

Yesterday Sydney, Australia

#Greatmindsdontthinkalike: At Uber, we take pride in our diversity and working environment that sees you as more than just a person that can do the job, but a unique individual that can level up our organization with a perspective only you can offer. Uber provides a truly open culture that encourages all to voice their thoughts.

About the Team

Over the last 10 years in APAC, we have seen an evolution of legal and regulatory challenges. From being a start-up bringing our service into new countries and cities, we're now focused on working closely with regulators and partnering with them to build a stronger and more sustainable ecosystem for Uber. We # SeetheForestandtheTrees by being able to know the details and the technical legal issues while also keeping in mind the bigger picture of what the business is trying to achieve.

About the Role

As the Head of Industrial Relations for Uber Australia, you will lead the strategic management of one of the most high-profile portfolios in the business. This role is at the coalface of shaping the Future of Work, balancing high-level advocacy with the operational engine room of a high-growth tech platform.

You will be responsible for navigating a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, working with our policy and employment legal teams on engagement with the Fair Work Commission and unions, while supervising the team that manages our day-to-day industrial health.

The Impact You'll Have

- Strategic IR Leadership: Develop a multi-year IR strategy for ANZ, including in relation to the roll out of durable, harmonised minimum standards while preserving the parts of our business drivers and delivery people tell us they love
- Team Supervision & Process Building: Lead a specialised team responsible for defending high-volume deactivation claims. You will be expected to build scalable processes and workflows to handle BAU workload with precision.
- MSO Implementation & Compliance: Oversee the end-to-end rollout of Minimum Standards Orders (MSOs). This includes ensuring operational compliance with earnings floors, product changes and the operational obligations set out in the MSO (like consultation requirements).
- Union & Regulatory Engagement: Engage with the Transport Workers Union (TWU) and help manage (alongside employment legal and policy) Uber's participation in the Fair Work Commission's instrument-making and employee-like reform processes.
- Executive Partnership: Act as a strategic partner to leaders on how tech platforms intersect with evolving industrial and safety regulations.

The Experience You'll Bring

- Experience: 10+ years of experience in employment and industrial relations law, ideally within high-growth tech or highly regulated industries (e.g., aviation or logistics).
- Operational Grit: A proven ability to build systems for high-volume legal tasks.
- Technical Expertise: Deep fluency in the Fair Work Act and the Closing Loopholes reforms, including the Digital Labour Platform Deactivation Code.
- Qualification: Law degree and admission to practice in an Australian jurisdiction (PQE 8+) preferred.
