Senior Counsel, Regulatory, Autonomous Mobility & Delivery

Today San Francisco, CA

About the Role

We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced, multi-faceted attorney to join Uber's Autonomous Mobility & Delivery legal team as we develop the world's best platform for autonomous vehicles to go to market. If you're passionate about solving novel problems, driving regulatory development to unleash innovation, and transforming the way that people go anywhere and get (almost) anything, come and join this bold team as we scale Uber's AV offerings.

This Senior Counsel will own a wide range of regulatory counseling initiatives that govern AV deployments across mobility and delivery use cases in US and international markets. In this role, you'll help build regulatory structures around the world, while advising internal clients against the backdrop of those same evolving rules, and engaging directly with regulators in support of Uber's mission. This role will offer views on AV safety at the vehicle and ADS levels, fleet management, and privacy principles. You'll also provide counseling on related commercial operations, working closely with cross functional business teams to launch autonomous vehicles across the Uber platform and build Uber capacity to develop the best-in-class autonomous vehicle ecosystem.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as a front-line attorney to craft and support creative solutions to novel and complex legal problems
  • Provide guidance that reflects both acute legal and strategic analysis, as well as an appreciation of Uber's short- and long-term AV goals
  • Soak up the quickly developing regulatory frameworks surrounding AVs, sidewalk robots, drones, eVTOLs and fleets, across the globe, so as to help Uber successfully navigate these various considerations
  • Engage directly with regulators and policymakers worldwide to proactively position Uber for success, reactively respond to regulator interest or inquiries, and help shape the regulatory framework governing Uber's AV efforts
  • Collaborate closely with our Policy and Communications team as we advance creative regulatory approaches
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues impacting Uber's AV businesses, often through developing and advancing your own proposed solutions
  • Engage and negotiate with partners on how to navigate regulatory issues with relevance to commercial agreements
  • Develop structures to promote compliance with regulatory obligation, including through engaging with industry coalitions and policymakers
