The Delivery Marketplace team is looking for an exceptional Principal Engineer to help lead the design that will help us shift from an open marketplace to a highly optimized and managed marketplace model.

What You'll Do
- Define the Vision: Architect and drive the long-term technical strategy and roadmap for managing the delivery marketplace
- Evaluate and Execute on New Solutions: Lead the design and implementation of novel systems that leverage reinforcement learning, predictive modeling, and optimization algorithms to build a highly efficient managed marketplace
- Drive Business Impact: Go beyond ideation - ensure that the solutions you deliver produce measurable, step-change improvements in key metrics such as courier utilization, gross bookings, and cost efficiency
- Lead Strategic Initiatives: Spearhead complex, cross-functional efforts that require deep technical influence, alignment across multiple engineering organizations, and strong partnership with product, science, and operations leadership
- Innovate at Scale: Tackle sophisticated technical challenges inherent in large-scale distributed systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance across our global delivery network
What You'll Need
- BS degree in Computer Science or relatedtechnical field, or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant software engineering experience, with a proven record of technical leadership and innovation
- Demonstrated experience defining and driving large-scale, cross-organizational technical initiatives from concept to completion
- Hands-on experience applying AI/ML techniques to solve complex engineering or marketplace optimization problems
- Experience influencing and aligning senior leadership (Director, VP level) on technical strategy and roadmaps
Bonus Points If
- Masters/PhD
- Background in optimization, machine learning, or reinforcement learning
- Experience building large-scale marketplace, ads, or recommendation systems
- Experience leading teams and openness to pursuing the management track in the future
About the Team
The Marketplace Dynamics team (Matching, Routing, Autonomous, and Shared Rides), within the broader Marketplace group (https://marketplace.uber.com/), optimizes earners and consumers matching algorithms and experiences through supply efficiency, identifies and explores new growth areas for Uber through Shared Rides and economy products, optimizes routing across all lines of business, and integrates autonomous vehicles into Uber's marketplace across mobility and delivery.
For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$284,000 per year - USD$315,500 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$284,000 per year - USD$315,500 per year.
For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$284,000 per year - USD$315,500 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$284,000 per year - USD$315,500 per year.
