About the Role

As Operations Manager, you will own high impact courier operations initiatives, acting as a strategic problem solver who leverages data to identify opportunities, address inefficiencies, and design scalable solutions. By translating complex data into clear insights and actionable recommendations, you will help improve operational performance across the Portuguese market.

You will work closely with the rest of our Local Operations team, and drive alignment across several teams, including Regional Operations.

This role calls for a combination of analytical skills, business acumen and stakeholder management. We operate in a fast paced environment, so we are looking for a highly adaptable candidate who is able to work on longer-term strategic initiatives while addressing our short-term issues at the same time.

What You'll Do

- Own and execute strategic courier initiatives: Lead high impact projects focused on growth, engagement, compliance, safety, and others.
- Strategy definition: Collaborate on the strategy of the courier operations vertical, finding areas of improvement, sizing opportunities and implementing highest impact projects.

- Design and scale process & tools: Identify structural inefficiencies using SQL and analytical tools, and build scalable processes, experiments and playbooks that improve overall performance and courier experience. In some cases, you'll work with Regional teams to deploy regionally-created solutions and adapt those to the local market.
- Project management: Oversee and execute end to end complex projects, such as the launch of new products and processes, ensuring that they are executed in line with Uber's high operating standards and delivered in a timely manner.
- Be the voice of the Portuguese market toward Regional teams: Maintain links between on-the-ground local teams and our Regional teams for the courier operations vertical. You will also need to collaborate and lead projects involving cross-functional teams like Legal, Employment, Comms, Community Operations, etc.
- Define success metrics and track impact: Establish clear KPIs, monitor performance over time, and communicate results and learnings effectively to senior stakeholders.

What You'll Need

- A minimum of 3 years in analytical roles; background in a growth role in a fast paced startup or in operations management, management consulting, investment banking or strategy work in a large business preferred.

- A BSc or MSc in a quantitative field, such as economics, mathematics or engineering.

- Analytical & critical thinking and experience with data-driven decision-making, ability to deal with data (reports, experiments, pricing models) and exercise good judgment in ambiguous circumstances and effectively communicating across a complementary team.

- Business acumen, ability to seize and prioritize opportunities based on feasibility and potential.

- Executor with bias for action and a proactive personality with ability to take initiative in a constantly changing work environment and adopt a generalist do-what-it-takes mindset.

- Creative 360 thinker: you are able to think outside the box and come up with new approaches and initiatives to reach ambitious growth targets.

- Excellent excel skills.

- Proficiency in English and Portuguese.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with SQL is a plus, or comfortable learning and using new software tools.
- Industry knowledge in the on-demand / same-day delivery space.
