Head of Strategic Insights
About Uber
Uber's vision is to be the most reliable way to get anything on demand. We partner with supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies, and other retail verticals to accelerate their growth through delivery experience transformation and innovative technological solutions. Leveraging the power of the Uber Eats platform, we aim to deliver anything within 30 minutes, making on-demand delivery reliable and efficient for all.
About the Role
As Head of Category Development & Strategic Insights, you will define and lead the strategy for how we unlock sustainable growth across our grocery business. You will lead a team responsible for generating high-impact, data-driven insights that identify the most meaningful growth opportunities from a consumer perspective, directly informing the Consumer Growth team's priorities.
Beyond consumer growth, your team will shape our approach to pricing, promotions, and assortment, delivering clear, actionable recommendations both internally and to our merchant partners. You will position Uber as a trusted growth partner, using insight-led storytelling to help partners make smarter, more strategic decisions.
This role requires strong commercial acumen and the ability to operate confidently in ambiguity, translating complex data into clear direction and tangible business impact. You will set the vision for the team, ensuring a consistent focus on outcomes, while building strong cross-functional and external relationships.
Success in this role depends on exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and drive alignment through compelling, insight-led narratives.
What You'll Do:
- Define and lead the category strategy across pricing, promotions, and assortment, identifying the highest-impact opportunities to drive sustainable, consumer-led growth.
- Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights by leading deep-dive analyses on performance drivers, customer behavior, and promotional effectiveness.
- Partner closely with Consumer Growth and Commercial teams to shape growth bets, set priorities, and ensure alignment with overall business economics.
- Deliver high-impact recommendations to senior stakeholders and retail partners, using compelling, insight-led storytelling to influence decisions and unlock growth.
- Act as a trusted advisor to key merchant partners, positioning Uber as a strategic growth partner through data-driven guidance on range, pricing, and promotions.
- Set the vision and standards for the team, fostering a culture of commercial thinking, ownership, and impact while coaching and developing high-performing talent.
- Navigate ambiguity with confidence, prioritizing ruthlessly and focusing the team on initiatives that drive measurable business outcomes.
What We're Seeking:
- 6+ years of experience in insights, strategy, category management, commercial analytics, consulting, or marketplace businesses with demonstrated impact on revenue and growth outcomes
- Strong analytical capability with fluency in data-driven decision-making (e.g., pricing, experimentation, contribution analysis, performance modelling). Must be proficient in SQL (please note, we test this in the first round)
- Proven experience influencing senior cross-functional stakeholders and translating complex analysis into clear commercial recommendations
- Managed a technical team
Nice to Have:
- Experience in grocery, retail, marketplace, consumer product or consumer tech environments with exposure to pricing, promotions, and assortment strategy.
- Background in top-tier strategy consulting, retail category strategy, category development, or high-growth marketplace businesses.
- Deep understanding of experimentation design, incrementality measurement, and unit economics.
- Demonstrated experience building frameworks and operating models in ambiguous environments.
