About the Role
Uber Direct is looking for a strong operational leader to continue to build and maintain the foundation of the Uber Direct business. You will be the right-hand of the GM, and will be responsible for OKRs that support the profitable growth of the business. You will be continuously improving our existing operations, while designing and implementing new processes and capabilities to support emerging merchant needs.
This role calls for an analytical thinker, who can motivate and mobilize cross-functional teams to drive action. We operate in a fast paced environment, so we are looking for a highly adaptable candidate who is able to pivot between strategic initiatives and rapid, tactical actions the next.
Your Impact in Role
- Team leadership: Lead a high-performing ops team to build and support the foundation of the Uber Direct business in Japan
- Partner management: Build, execute, and iterate on processes and tools to support merchant needs, including overall merchant experience, onboarding, billing/invoicing, support, & analytics
- Marketplace: Balance OKRs between reliability and cost; develop a deep understanding of our marketplace product and continuously look for opportunities to improve fulfillment rates and delivery speed, while managing and reducing cost
- New capabilities: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale emerging product and operational capabilities
- #safetyfirst: Partner with local Safety and Compliance teams to ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and safety best practices
- Global advocacy: Work with global business and product teams to learn and apply best practices in Japan, and share Japan learnings, while advocating for unique market needs
- Business reporting: Monitor and provide regular updates on key operational and business metrics; create and maintain dashboards, and provide deep analysis to identify insights and opportunities
The Experience You'll Bring
- 8+ years of professional work experience in a related field (start-up, operations, strategy, analytics, tech)
- Leadership and cross-functional project management - ability to lead and motivate direct team members and cross-functional teams to execute to a common goal
- Problem solving & operational excellence - a constant appetite and ability to analyze complex situations using a vast range of inputs, drawing simple conclusions and translating them into actionable plan
- Business acumen - ability to link operational levers and actions to our business performance metrics and P&L, which requires a strong understanding of merchant needs, and key drivers of our revenues and costs
- Strong analytical capabilities (i.e. Google Sheets, SQL, Tableau proficiency preferred)
- Business proficiency in English
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor degree preferred, Masters or above a plus
- Business proficiency in Japanese a plus
