Head of Marketing Strategy & Investment

4 days ago San Francisco, CA

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced marketing strategy and investment leader to define and lead Uber's long-term global marketing strategy and investment approach across all of Uber's businesses globally. This pivotal role serves as the central strategic engine for all of marketing and will be responsible for translating Uber's global business strategy into clear, actionable marketing priorities and plans, ensuring every dollar invested maximizes return and drives sustainable growth.

The successful candidate will own the marketing organisation's strategic and financial plan, define our geographic footprint and investment priorities, and set the framework for budget allocation across the entire marketing funnel. This is a high-visibility position that requires deep understanding of marketing across the funnel, exceptional financial acumen, executive communication skills, and a deep understanding of global market dynamics. This role will partner closely with leaders across Marketing, Operations, Applied Science and Finance and lead the charge across the below key areas.

What You'll Do

Global Marketing Strategy & Planning

  • Serve as the primary strategic partner to Marketing, Finance, and Ops leadership on investment strategy, business performance, and long-range planning
  • Translate strategy to action: convert global business objectives (e.g., geo expansion, new product launches, growth bets) into clear, quantifiable marketing priorities and strategies
  • Define marketing's geographic footprint: lead the strategic analysis to determine where the organisation invests its marketing dollars globally, identifying high-potential and priority markets based on data, competitive landscape, and overall business opportunity
  • Own Investment Allocation: Develop and manage the global marketing investment framework, defining how budget is allocated across the marketing funnel (e.g., awareness, education, action and retention)
  • Integrate marketing discipline: Apply deep expertise in key marketing methodologies (e.g., brand building, performance marketing, retail marketing) to ensure investment models are grounded in marketing best practices
  • Stay ahead of the curve: Monitor industry trends, platform ecosystem shifts, privacy changes, and competitive dynamics to ensure Uber remains at the forefront of measurement and investment innovation

Performance, Investment Optimisation & Measurement

  • Budget Governance: Partner closely with Finance and Regional Marketing teams to manage annual and multi-year marketing investment planning, forecasting, and resource allocation cycles across business units
  • Full-funnel approach: Manage Uber's global full-funnel marketing investment portfolio, balancing efficiency and long-term growth across channels, funnel stages, and markets and lead strategic deep-dives and data analysis to identify bottlenecks, emerging opportunities, and underperforming areas, recommending dynamic shifts in investment to maximize portfolio efficiency
  • Investment Governance:Establish and govern a unified operating cadence for investment decision-making (annual plan, quarterly reviews, leadership checkpoints) and partner with the channels team to inform platform strategies, ensuring investment decisions reflect the latest insights and learnings
  • Performance Measurement: Define and track global marketing KPIs, ROI, and efficiency metrics (such as LTV/CAC ratios) to rigorously measure the effectiveness of the strategy and investment portfolio
  • Lead measurement evolution: In partnership with Data Science, drive the next generation of marketing measurement, more specifically, developing a robust measurement to brand (including offline), incrementality, attribution, and MMM capabilities and defining the framework for how to best balance investment across the funnel and the optimal interplay between brand and performance marketing
