Head of Communications, Hong Kong
6 days ago• Hong Kong
About the Role
Hong Kong is an important and fast-growing market for Uber in the region, playing a central role in how people move around the city and serving riders from around the world. As Hong Kong considers the regulation of ridesharing and looks ahead to self-driving vehicles, this role will shape how Uber explains its purpose, partnerships, and priorities. The Head of Communications & Social Media will lead Uber's public engagement, including via earned media, our social channels and external events.
The Impact You'll Have
- Define and lead Uber Hong Kong's communications strategy across earned media and consumer social channels, with clear thinking about what we say, how we say it, who it is for, and why it matters
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media in Hong Kong, handling proactive storytelling, reactive issues, and spokesperson engagement
- Own Uber Hong Kong's social media presence, setting a locally relevant, creative, and often light-hearted tone that engages riders and reflects how people actually experience Uber in the city
- Partner closely with public policy, legal, safety, marketing, and local leadership teams to support regulatory engagement, partnerships with the taxi sector, product launches, and incident response
- Act as a trusted member of the Hong Kong leadership team, advising on reputational risk and long-term narrative as the city's mobility landscape evolves
The Experience You'll Bring
- Eight years' experience leading external communications, including media relations and issues management, in a complex or highly scrutinized environment
- Proven ability to set clear communications strategy and translate business priorities into focused, effective narratives
- Proven social media experience with a deep understanding of the major social platforms (Instagram) and their respective audiences, features, and best practices.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese required; Mandarin preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing both social media strategy and traditional PR, with strong judgment on channel choice and audience targeting
- Deep familiarity with public policy, regulation, or infrastructure-related issues, particularly in mobility, technology, or urban services
- Experience acting as a senior advisor to leadership teams on reputation, risk, and external positioning
- Strong track record engaging with top-tier Hong Kong media and shaping debate on complex, often contested topics
- Social media content creation skills, with an ability to nimbly tell and promote stories in an engaging social-endemic manner.
- Influencer, creator and talent management experience.
