About the Role
We're hiring an Engineering Manager II to lead the Discovery UX team within Uber Eats. The Discovery UX team owns both the user experience and platform for the consumer experience of the Uber Eats home screen and feed, serving millions of users.
This is a high-impact role that blends platform thinking with user experience. We're looking for a technically credible leader who can define strategy, scale up the team for what's next, and execute in an ambiguous, fast-moving space.
What the Candidate Will Do:
- Lead and grow the Discovery UX engineering team, setting direction and ensuring high quality execution across both platform and user-facing initiatives.
- Partner with Product, Data Science, and Design to define and deliver transformative experiences and strategies that drive business outcomes like growth, conversion, and retention
- Guide technical design and architecture decisions; ensure the team builds scalable systems for the hundreds of engineers building features for the Uber Eats home screen.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers to help them grow technically and professionally, while fostering a strong, inclusive team culture.
- Drive strategic investments and influence cross-functional stakeholders, across the broader Inspire & Feed organizations.
Basic Qualifications:
- 4+ years of engineering management experience, including hiring, mentorship, and team development.
- Prior experience as a high-performing back-end or full-stack individual contributor, with the ability to read and review production-level code.
- Experience working on customer-facing products at a consumer-scale tech company.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Led teams focused on consumer experience problems in the Discovery and/or Search space
- Demonstrated ability to drive strategy and execution in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Strong product intuition, with experience collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Data Science on hybrid product/platform teams.
- Proven track record of developing junior engineers and scaling early-stage or fast-growing teams.
