About the Team
Uber's Safety Operations Team is dedicated to reducing incidents and improving safety for all of our users across our global operations. You'll work with operations, product, data science, regulatory policy and legal teams to ensure Uber is an ultra safe mobility and delivery platform. Safety is at the core of the Uber experience, and you'll be a key contributor to the team's global efforts and successes.
About the Role
We are searching for a Director of Regional Safety to lead Uber's safety team across the EMEA region. This is a rare opportunity to run a cross-functional, cross lines-of-business team that is driving improved safety outcomes in service of one of Uber's core values.
This role requires strong business acuity, a deep dedication to safety, and an ability to work with senior stakeholders across multiple subject areas.
Our goal is to become the undisputed leader in safety within the mobility and delivery industry, which requires a candidate to have validated experience in safety or risk assessment programs, marketplace operations, and leading teams, coupled with excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills.

What You'll Do
Working with senior leaders from Uber's Safety, as well as Regional Leadership, you will:
- Lead and encourage a ~20 person team driving Uber's safety priorities across Europe, Middle East and Africa operations
- Drive operational excellence, as well as new programs and initiatives, that establish Uber as a safety leader across ridesharing, delivery, and other lines of business
- Improve and strengthen our risk management across all aspects of our business
- Identify, develop, and implement critical safety projects in region
- Work with regional business leadership to launch new features and products, and to enable sustained business growth by incorporating safety principles
- Ensure senior business leaders are regularly informed of important safety risks and that appropriate mitigation measures are prioritized and resourced
- Work across multiple areas of Uber's business, including product, marketing, policy, operations, and legal, to develop safety solutions to address the unique challenges Uber faces
What You'll Need
Basic Qualifications
- 15+ years experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role managing a P&L and/or leading a functional area (e.g, Product, Operations, Risk, etc)
- Familiarity with leading geographically dispersed teams in Europe, Middle East and/or Africa.
- Experience leading aspects of safety programming or risk management at a company with an established safety culture are a plus
- Combination of working in complex organizations and/or fast-moving smaller ventures
Capabilities
- Deep understanding of business operations and opposing pressures a business leader faces on a day to day basis
- An inclusive leader with a consistent track record of encouraging and mentoring their team
- Solid understanding and practical expertise in risk management frameworks and how to apply them
- Comfortable influencing discussions at the highest levels and a demonstrated ability to find common ground and align partners and teams with conflicting agendas
- Ability to tell clear, compelling stories out of complex issues and analysis
- Experience in planning, setting metrics, and roadmap development
- Experience working cross-functionally
- Ability to design processes without a prescribed template
- Fluency in data driven analysis
