2026 PhD Software Engineer Intern (Observability Monitoring & Alerting), United States
We're looking for PhD candidates to intern on the Observability Monitoring & Alerting team during summer 2026 (12 weeks). You will be embedded in our engineering team and work closely with other specialists, software developers, and product managers. As a PhD intern, you will work on an exciting yet bold problem in depth and independently, under the supervision of an experienced engineer on that team.
About the Team:
Join Uber's Observability Monitoring & Alerting team and help build the next generation of Uber's alerting and monitoring platform-used daily by every engineer across the company.
Our mission is to reduce time to detect and mitigate outages through statistical analysis and AI-driven innovation. We focus on three core areas: standardizing and applying anomaly detection to system and platform metrics to identify issues early; leveraging AI to help engineers quickly root-cause and resolve problems; and closing the loop with annotations and insights to continuously improve the balance between precision and recall.
