Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Jira Administrator to own and operate our Atlassian ecosystem, with Jira at the center of our delivery, operations, and governance model. This role is responsible for ensuring Jira is configured, governed, and optimized to support agile delivery, IT service management, security, compliance, and enterprise reporting.
The Jira Administrator will serve as the platform owner balancing speed, flexibility, and control enabling teams to execute efficiently while maintaining strong governance, security, and auditability. This role combines technical configuration expertise with a product mindset ensuring Jira underpins best-practice processes, scalable workflows, enterprise reporting, and automation that reduces administrative friction and improves time-to-value.
This is an on-site position based in Seattle, WA. You will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 3 days a week.
Key Responsibilities
Jira Platform Ownership
- Serve as the primary owner and administrator for Jira Software, Jira Service Management (JSM), and related Atlassian tools
- Design, configure, and maintain Jira projects, workflows, issue types, screens, fields, permissions, and automations. Design and maintain consistent workflows that reinforce project delivery best practices, stage-gates, status transitions, and intake
- Own platform standards, governance, and best practices
- Maintain system hygiene, performance, versioning, and integrations across teams and platforms
Agile & Delivery Enablement
- Support Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, and hybrid delivery models
- Collaborate with PMO / Project Delivery leadership to align Jira workflows to delivery standards, methodologies, and reporting structures
- Configure boards, backlogs, sprint reporting, roadmaps, and dependency tracking
- Enable dependency mapping, timelines, roadmaps, and status reporting without over-burdening delivery teams

IT Service Management (ITSM)
- Administer Incident, Problem, Change, and Request workflows
- Implement ITIL-aligned processes including SLAs, approvals, and escalations
- Build service portals and request catalogs
Security, Risk & Compliance
- Enforce access controls and audit logging
- Manage user access, permissions, and security controls in line with governance standards
- Support SOX, SOC, PCI, HIPAA, and internal audit requirements
- Implement change management workflows and evidence collection
Automation & Integration
- Build Jira automations and integrations with CI/CD, monitoring, and identity platforms
- Identify bottlenecks and propose optimizations proactively
- Use ScriptRunner to automate repetitive tasks, enrich workflows, validate transitions, and enforce data quality. Introduce continuous improvements that help Jira act as a productivity amplifier.
Reporting & Analytics
- Design dashboards and executive reporting
- Build meaningful dashboards and reports to support portfolio prioritization, delivery health, throughput, cycle-time, and capacity planning
- Ensure data quality for KPIs, SLAs, velocity, and operational metrics
- Ensure consistent data field definitions across the system
- Ensure data structures & fields support analytical use cases without compromising usability
Platform Reliability & Performance
- Own availability, upgrades, and platform optimization
Qualifications
Job Requirements
- 5+ years Jira administration experience
- Deep Jira Software and JSM expertise, Including ScriptRunner, Jira Software and Jira Service Management
- Agile delivery at scale experience
- Strong understanding of intake, prioritisation, PMO processes, project lifecycle, and reporting
- ITIL and ITSM knowledge
- Audit and compliance experience
- Advanced workflow design and automation
- Permissions and security controls
- REST API and integration experience
- Executive dashboarding
Nice to Have
- Atlassian certifications
- Confluence, Assets, Opsgenie experience
- Regulated industry experience
Additional Information
Compensation
- The pay range for this position is $105,000 - 120,000, on a full-time schedule.
- Along with base salary, Trupanion employees may be eligible for monthly bonuses.
- We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion's success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members. Our new hire grants vest over 4 years.
