Who we're looking for

Toyota's Corporate Shared Services Division is looking for a highly motivated Senior Architect with expertise in construction preplanning and design.

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the design and delivery of construction projects across the North American portfolio in accordance with industry and company standards, integrating architectural design principles and construction planning to ensure functional, compliant, and efficient project outcomes.

Reporting to the Planning & Construction Manager, the person in this role will support the People & Property Services Department's objective of managing up to $100M in construction projects annually at primarily non-manufacturing locations.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and manage multiple design studies for projects ranging from facility renewals (roof replacements, HVAC upgrades, office interiors ) to ground-up facilities (childcare centers, fire stations).
  • Engage stakeholders to develop project requirements, create detailed scope of work, schematic designs, coordinate with A&E firms, and review design packages.
  • Lead architectural preplanning activities including site analysis, feasibility studies, constructability analysis and design concept development to align project goals with functional, aesthetic, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert guidance on architectural finishes, materials, and systems to ensure durability, functionality, and quality in the built environment.
  • Ensure integration of civil, structural, MEP, security, low-voltage, fire protection, and other building systems.
  • Collaborate with estimating teams to validate schematic designs to ensure budget alignment and project schedule.
  • Conduct design coordination meetings with internal stakeholders and external consultants to maintain communication, standardization, and timely approvals.
  • Monitor construction progress to verify adherence to architectural drawings and specifications, addressing design-related issues promptly to minimize rework and delays.
  • Utilize AutoCAD/Revit, Bluebeam, project management software, and working knowledge of Excel and MS Project to manage documentation and workflows.

What you bring

  • Eight years' experience in architecture, design management, or owner's representation, preferably with exposure to both design firms and client-side roles.
  • Proven expertise in pre-construction planning, architectural design principles, and construction management integration to ensure projects are designed and built to specifications.
  • Knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, trade sequencing, change management and safety standards with an emphasis on architectural compliance.
  • Commitment to enhancing design standards and operational processes.
  • Deep understanding of building systems (civil, structural, MEP, security, fire protection).
  • Proficient in reading, interpreting, and reviewing architectural and engineering drawings to understand design implications, summarize key points, and communicate findings/issues effectively.
  • Ability to concurrently execute projects of varied sizes and types at multiple locations via standardized methods.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in support of anticipating design challenges and resolving issues with sustainable countermeasures.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate architectural concepts into actionable construction plans and to liaise effectively with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering.
