Who we're looking for
The Legal Department for Toyota Financial Services is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Managing Counsel - Insurance.
The primary responsibility of this role is to provide legal counsel and strategic advice to the executive leadership team of Toyota's insurance affiliate, Toyota Insurance Management Solutions USA, LLC, (TIMS) and related entities.
Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, this role requires a seasoned legal professional with deep insurance industry expertise who can provide strategic legal advice, risk analysis, and counsel to support business objectives. The successful candidate will lead legal initiatives and collaborate across the organization to mitigate risk and drive compliance.
This position is based in Plano, Texas. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within commutable distance of this location.
What you'll be doing
- Provide expert legal advice and risk analysis on insurance-related matters to TIMS, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a strategic legal leader, partnering with senior management to develop and implement policies, strategies, and solutions that support business growth and risk mitigation.
- Handle day-to-day responsibilities and issues related to corporate governance, insurance regulatory, licensing and compliance matters, usage-based insurance programs, data privacy, marketing, corporate transactions, intellectual property matters, litigation matters and employment matters.
- Mentor other members of legal, fostering professional development and ensuring high-quality legal support.
- Oversee and coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, compliance audits, and litigation related to insurance operations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex insurance contracts, agreements, and corporate documents to protect the company's interests and minimize legal exposure.
What you bring
- Education: Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
- Admission to any U.S. state bar, in good standing, and able to obtain license to practice law in Texas
- Experience: Experience with insurance and optional vehicle protection products
- Skills/Hands on Technical proficiency: Microsoft Office and related products
