Who we're looking for

Toyota's Vehicle Performance Development 2 (VPD2) is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Style and Body Systems Engineer focusing on HVAC and Wind Noise performance development.

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the primary responsibility of this role is to support Vehicle Performance Development's objective to develop reliable and competitive products that exceed our customers' expectations.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead HVAC and Wind Noise development for major-model, minor-model and model-year vehicle development projects.
  • Define vehicle performance targets and achievement strategies through market study, competitor benchmark and customer voice.
  • Execute strategies to develop and predict vehicle HVAC system and Wind Noise performance through drawing and CATIA design review, hand-calculation, CFD, and physical testing.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including design engineers, style studios, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers in both North America and Japan to ensure incorporation of HVAC and Wind Noise performance needs into vehicle design.
  • Confirm predicted performance achievement by conducting physical testing in thermal chambers and on-road evaluations and analyzing the acquired data.
  • Lead technician team members to conduct physical evaluations.
  • Use collaborative problem-solving for countermeasure development and confirmation in a team-focused environment, including market issue resolution and feedback to development for recurrence prevention.
  • Support cross-functional vehicle development teams as a Style and Body Systems Performance Development Engineer (HVAC, Wind Noise, Human Factors, Vehicle Environment, Seat Comfort & Reliability, and Kino).
  • Must be able to work onsite Monday through Thursday with the option of remote Fridays contingent on the needs of the business.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and or other related technical fields.
  • Minimum of 3+ years' of automotive engineering experience in Design or Evaluation of vehicle thermal systems including HVAC and/or Cooling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to develop creative, effective and efficient countermeasures.
  • Demonstrated positive collaboration on project teams using strong interpersonal and communication skills, including effective communication with TMC members.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex information into a clear and easily understandable story for presentation to key stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, as well as work overtime as required.

Added bonus if you have

  • Ability to independently use Catia for component and system design review.
  • Familiarity with CFD operation and analysis.
  • Ability to use Star CCM+ for basic CFD analysis.
  • Experience with vehicle sealing systems and wind noise evaluations.
  • Experience with test data processing and analysis.
  • Genuine interest in automobiles and basic knowledge of automotive design.
