Toyota Racing Development (TRD) is seeking an Engineer, Electronics to join our Vehicle Systems team. We are dedicated to advancing automotive engineering and maximizing racetrack performance, and this role is integral to our pursuit of becoming the most respected motorsports engineering organization.

This role focuses on the installation, configuration, and maintenance of data systems and electronics across all TRD race programs. The position will support testing operations, sensor integration, wiring harness builds, and the deployment of telemetry and power control systems to ensure reliable performance at the track and in the lab.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the installation of data systems and electronics in all race programs, including selection of sensors, sensor termination, and wiring harness builds.
  • Support testing of various programs in conjunction with program leaders, including test planning, travel planning, management of track test tools and equipment, preparation of items under test, and post-event reporting.
  • Assist in wiring harness and lab build work such as lab preparation, maintenance, and material ordering.
  • Configure and maintain power control systems from Cosworth, Bosch, and MoTeC.
  • Review data from testing sessions and quantify the performance of sensors and systems.
  • Work with suppliers to procure components, secure support, and resolve issues.
  • Deploy and manage telemetry systems such as pit and IT setups.
  • Perform manual construction of electronic and wiring projects for test and race vehicles.
  • Measure and debug CAN buses using protocol scanning hardware/software (Vector, PCAN), organize CAN bus networks into .dbc files, and manually create and organize CAN channels.
  • Contribute to the integration of AI in data processes inside of TRD.

Qualifications

A successful candidate will have:

  • BS in Electronic or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3 years of experience in a top-level motorsports electronic engineering environment.
  • 2 years of experience generating electrical and electronics designs down to a component level without supervision.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Pi, MoTeC, Bosch, or Atlas analysis software.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Power BI.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and hands-on expertise.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced working environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with MATLAB and Python.
  • Familiarity with software development tools.
  • Proficiency in using AI tools (e.g., Claude) to expedite development tasks.
  • Experience in the automotive or motorsports industry.
  • Understanding of vehicle dynamics and performance.

Travel & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel approximately 15%, including occasional track tests, team visits, meetings, vendor visits, and trade shows.
  • Openness to an international assignment (3 years).
  • Ability to climb into pit stands, lean, crouch, bend, and crawl as needed.
