Who we're looking for

Toyota's Regulatory Affairs & Environmental Sustainability Division is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Compliance Strategy & Engineering Core Business Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to create, support, and assemble documentation for core product (vehicle) certification including applications, regulated reports, and other required submissions.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Compliance Strategy & Engineering, Core Business, the person in this role will support the Compliance Strategy & Engineering department's objective to assure regulatory expertise and accurate on-time certification of TMNA's core market products, including on-road passenger vehicles and trucks sold in North America.

What you'll be doing

Your primary Responsibilities as an Engineer in Compliance Strategy & Engineering, Core Business group would include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as primary responsible engineer for a wide variety of North America emissions compliance and certification application documents and reports.
  • Collaborate with our counterparts in Toyota - Japan (TMC) to compose and confirm accuracy of regulated annual and quarterly reports and other submissions (EPA, NHTSA, CARB, S177) as required to support government agency approvals and related credit programs.
  • Submission of applications, reports, and other documents (Running Change notifications, OBD approvals, negotiation materials, etc) to EPA's EV-CIS online system.
  • Manage data collection activities within TMNA for emissions application items and reporting related matters for all vehicle projects, in collaboration with TMC.
  • Support the certification fee payments required to EPA to ensure no delays to application timings or other downstream processes.
  • Lead any Core and Core Adjacent regulation information sharing within TMNA (Shaho and Shanin, EPA guidance) to ensure all new or changing regulation requirements are captured and understood.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering discipline or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years related experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail and written communication skills.
  • Full capability in MS Office suite, with minimum mid-level MS Excel skills.
  • Ability to read and process large detailed technical regulatory documents.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, to effectively prioritize, manage and lead the completion of many regulated submissions with various data collections required throughout the year.
  • Capability to represent our division and motivate stakeholders, primarily across TMNA R&D.

Added bonus if you have:

  • Work experience in automotive powertrain and/or experience in emission and fuel economy calibration.
  • Master's degree in related engineering discipline or related field.
  • Prior understanding of EPA Tier3/Tier4 and CARB LEVIII/LEVIV vehicle emissions regulations and/or EPA & NHTSA GHG/CAFE regulations.
  • Japanese bi-lingual skills
