Youth Safety Policy Counsel

Responsibilities

About the Team:
We are looking for an experienced and innovative counsel to join the public policy subject matter expert team made up of tech policy leaders from an array of disciplines. The team provides strategic advice to the business and anticipates policy trends and impacts. We also proactively drive thought leadership by seeking out new ideas to help the company lead the industry. You will focus on leading our efforts to respond to youth safety legislation, engage with third party stakeholders in the youth safety space, and develop thought leadership and policy solutions in relation to youth safety. You will serve as a subject matter expert for the broader Americas public policy team, based in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities
- Legislative Analysis: Analyze and respond to youth safety legislation with a particular focus on relevant bills in U.S. state legislatures and the U.S. Congress.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including safety advocates, academic researchers, and governmental agencies.
- Thought Leadership: Develop policy solutions that address concerns around youth safety vis a vis social media platforms.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Public Policy, Legal, Product, Trust & Safety, and Communications teams to assess and evaluate products, services, and features with youth safety implications.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- JD and significant legal experience, ideally in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
- Experience assessing and evaluating youth safety legislation (e.g., age appropriate design codes, age assurance requirements, personalized content regulation, and restrictions/prohibitions on youths' access to social media platforms).
- Ability to operate and execute quickly in a fast-moving environment.
- Experience working across multiple functions, influencing, and collaborating with others to successfully implement programs and initiatives; history of successful cross-functional team and leadership collaboration.
- Focused on problem-solving and proactive work ethic. Self-motivated; can identify and complete work without being instructed.
- Strong research and analytical abilities paired with significant discretion. This individual will need to take complex situations and effectively communicate their implications for the company, as well as defend priorities for the public policy function.
- Outstanding judgment, persuasive and advocacy skills, and creativity. A problem-solver experienced at remaining focused when problems come your way.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience analyzing and shaping youth safety policy at a regulatory agency or legislative body, tech company, or law firm.
- Experience working with technology companies and ability to understand complex legal and technical issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively on finding practical, implementable tools and operational solutions.
