Responsibilities
Our Regulatory team provides essential guidance to TikTok and its family of products, ensuring that our innovation is matched with compliance, responsibility, and foresight. We empower the business by navigating complex regulatory landscapes, shaping strategies that allow our teams to achieve their boldest ambitions while meeting evolving legal and policy expectations. The Regulatory team is responsible for managing global regulatory matters, including advising on new and existing frameworks, engaging with regulators, and ensuring proactive alignment with fast-changing laws across multiple jurisdictions.
We are seeking an exceptional regulatory lawyer to serve as Head of Regulatory, leading a high-performing global team responsible for some of the most complex and high-profile regulatory issues facing the company. This role offers the opportunity to shape and drive TikTok's regulatory legal strategy, partnering closely with cross-functional leaders to manage risk, ensure compliance, and advance responsible innovation in a dynamic and highly scrutinized environment. It is a key leadership position, reporting directly to the General Counsel, and it sits at the forefront of defining how one of the most influential tech companies operates within global regulatory frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead TikTok's global regulatory legal strategy, aligning legal guidance with business objectives and evolving regulatory requirements.
- Advise senior executives and business leaders on high-stakes regulatory issues, providing clear, actionable, and risk-aware guidance.
- Build and manage a global team of regulatory lawyers, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and operational excellence.
- Oversee engagement with regulators and government agencies, ensuring TikTok's positions are effectively communicated and aligned with legal obligations.
- Monitor, assess, and anticipate emerging laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions, translating complex requirements into practical business strategies.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (including Public Policy, Compliance, Trust & Safety, and Product teams) to ensure proactive and coordinated approaches to regulatory matters.
- Lead legal input into regulatory investigations, inquiries, and examinations, balancing compliance with business priorities.
- Drive the development of scalable processes, policies, and training to ensure consistent and efficient regulatory compliance.
- Serve as a thought leader within the Legal organization, helping to shape TikTok's overall approach to operating responsibly in a complex global environment.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school with a strong academic record
- Deep knowledge of global regulatory frameworks, including: Data privacy (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), AI regulation (e.g., EU AI Act, U.S. Executive Order on AI), Competition/antitrust law, Platform liability and content moderation laws (e.g., DSA, Section 230)
- Experience engaging with government regulators, lawmakers, and industry bodies.
- Strong ability to align regulatory compliance with business strategy and skilled at identifying and mitigating regulatory risk across markets.
- Skilled in managing regulatory investigations, enforcement actions, and high-stakes crises.
- Successful in driving cross-functional adoption of new policies or compliance requirements.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical literacy in AI systems (e.g., ML models, generative AI, algorithmic decision-making).
- Proven ability to embed regulatory readiness into product development, go-to-market, and operations processes.

Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $242000 - $624000 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
