Head of Communications - E-Commerce, APAC
Responsibilities
About The Team
This role sits within our Global E-commerce Communications team and will serve as the senior leader and communications stakeholder for TikTok Shop Operations, Business and Product teams in TikTok Shop's Asian markets as well as cross-functional legal, policy and governance & experience teams.
About The Role:
We're looking for a strategic and dynamic communications leader for our e-commerce communications team in APAC. This is a critical role that will shape how TikTok Shop connects with media and key stakeholders across this high-priority region. You'll be at the forefront of building brand reputation, driving business narratives, and positioning TikTok Shop as the leading commerce platform in the region.
This role will be critical in building local narratives, devising pan-regional and local market communications strategies, and advising business and product teams on a range of topics including product positioning, messaging alignment in the regional regulatory environment, market trends, and external issues, ultimately preserving our competitive advantage and safeguarding our brand reputation across the region.
- Strategic Communications: Act as the primary communications POC for SEA + Japan Business Operations leadership. Lead narrative development around e-commerce growth, SMB + seller economic empowerment and platform innovation tailored to regional market dynamics. Develop and oversee execution of comprehensive regional communications strategies that support TikTok Shop's business objectives across Japan and SEA markets. Serve as the communications lead for all aspects of e-commerce communications across the region including risk analysis, issues management and driving high impact execution.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor the Comms Managers for SEA + Japan, setting priorities, and driving high-impact execution.
- Media Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with top-tier business, technology, and trade media across the region. Proactively pitch stories that showcase TikTok Shop's impact on the e-commerce ecosystem, creator community, and local economies. Serve as media spokesperson and prepare executives for media engagements and speaking opportunities.
- XFN Stakeholder Management: Work cross-functionally with regional and global communications teams based on regional and market needs to drive clear narratives about our business product, partnerships and vision. Serve as the senior level Comms POC for local XFN partners (marketing, operations, policy, legal, creator partnerships), ensuring message alignment and advising on market trends, potential risks, and opportunities specific to Asian markets.
- Partner with Public Policy & Government Relations: Provide counsel on messaging related to the local regulatory landscape, working closely with the Public Policy & Government Relations teams to ensure external messaging is aligned and consistent for both journalists and policymakers.
- Risk mitigation and issues management: Proactively identify fast-moving issues and key risks. Stay ahead of regional e-commerce trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory developments. Provide strategic counsel to leadership based on market intelligence and communications insights. Partner with cross-functional teams in Strategic Readiness, Legal, Public Policy & Government Relations and Operations to craft strategies and messaging to mitigate those risks and safeguard the TikTok Shop brand. Track and report on communications effectiveness, media sentiment, and brand perception
- Content oversight: Review and advise on SEA + Japan TikTok Shop external facing content including seller communications, presentations, seasonal promotions, logistics updates and more for accuracy and reputational risks.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualification(s)
- Substantial experience in communications with at least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership or management capacity ideally gained in technology, e-commerce, consumer-facing brand or digital platform.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful communications strategies in Southeast Asian markets.
- Exceptional track record in crisis communications, risk mitigation, and issues management in a fast-paced technology or e-commerce environment.
- Excellent written & spoken communication skills
- Ability to quickly build trust with internal stakeholders, proven track record of working in a diverse, dynamic and large organization.
- Ability to multitask efficiently under pressure and ambiguity, with self-starting and motivated attitudes in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and ability to translate complex concepts into clear messages.

- Deep understanding of the e-commerce landscape, social media ecosystem, and creator economy in SEA.
