Engineering Manager - USDS
Responsibilities
TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video. Our mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy. U.S. Data Security ("USDS") is a subsidiary of TikTok in the U.S.
In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.
Responsibilities
- Build and develop a high-performing engineering team
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment that encourages innovation, learning, and accountability
- Partner with XFN teams, leadership, and other engineering teams to define and execute the roadmap supporting business needs
- Facilitate effective communication and XFN collaboration to ensure integrated and efficient solutions
- Establish and enforce robust operational procedures, incident response protocols, and monitoring capabilities
- Oversee the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable, reliable, and secure systems and services; implement monitoring tools and set up metrics to keep track of system health and performance
- Drive a culture of proactive problem-solving, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement in system reliability and performance
- Ensure adherence to Compliance and Data Security policies
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in software engineering or machine learning, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role overseeing technical teams.
- Familiarity with the machine learning lifecycle, data pipelines, and data science methodologies.
- Solid engineering skills. Proficiency in at least two of: Linux, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Storm.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on problem-solving.
- Strong ownership; proactive, skillful, candid and clear communication; ability to handle high complexity, urgency, cross-functional alignment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Managing experience with a combination of both tech and non-tech personnel.
- 5 years of experience in software engineering or machine learning in top IT companies.
Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $208800 - $438000 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
