Backend Engineer Intern (Edge Computing Platform) - 2026 Start (BS/MS)
Responsibilities
We are looking for talented individuals to join us for an internship in 2026 (Earliest starting in January). Internships at TikTok aim to offer students industry exposure and hands-on experience. Watch your ambitions become reality as your inspiration brings infinite opportunities at TikTok. Applicants must be current students and maintain enrollment throughout the entire internship period. Graduates are not eligible for internship positions.
Applicants should be available for a minimum 12-week internship, working at least 3 days per week onsite at TikTok's Sydney office.

Edge Computing Platform at TikTok
At TikTok, the Edge Computing Platform team manages millions of heterogeneous device resources distributed globally. Part of the Infrastructure department, we specialize in building advanced edge PaaS solutions, developing systems that orchestrate and schedule resources across our worldwide network. Our core focus includes large-scale edge orchestration, containerization, IoT integration, and Linux kernel development. We're pioneering FaaS capabilities and innovative network solutions that power our global infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Support the abstraction of business scenarios and assist in technical solution design and implementation on the platform side.
- Participate in various special technical research and forward-looking projects with new technology introduction under guidance.
- Contribute to the internationalization process of the PaaS platform and assist in managing the company's global edge resources.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate, or Postgraduate who is currently pursuing a Bachelor/Masters Degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field, expecting to graduate by December 2025, applicants who have already graduated will NOT be eligible to apply for internships.
- Candidates are expected to work on-site at our Sydney office for a minimum of three days per week during the internship, which runs for at least 3 months and may be extended based on performance and mutual agreement.
- Basic programming skills, understanding of data structures and algorithms, and a problem-solving mindset
- Positive and optimistic attitude, strong sense of responsibility, and good team communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Passion for programming, eagerness to learn, curiosity, and an enterprising spirit
- Willingness to focus on and learn new technologies in the industry
- Familiarity with concepts related to high-concurrency services, microservice design, and system architecture
- Familiarity with k8s, Docker, Linux networks, IoT, FaaS, and other edge computing related technologies
