Reuters is looking for a deputy Editor in Charge to join our growing Global News Monitoring (GNM) team in Bengaluru.

The Global News Monitoring team (GNM) is one of the most important news hubs within Reuters. Operating on a 24/7 cycle and working at speed, this global breaking news team covers some of the biggest stories taking place across the world. The team monitors social media, company newswires, competition news websites and several other sources to ensure that Reuters stays competitive globally. The team helps to consolidate Reuters' social-media monitoring eƯorts by staying on top of social media, company blogs and any other source from which news originates.
A normal day at GNM involves covering financial and companies' news, monitoring X for breaking news and covering earthquakes and other general news. The team doubles down as a breaking news hub, covering everything from a watchdog warning of missile strikes near nuclear power plants in Ukraine, to cyberattacks, accidents, vehicle recalls, billion-dollar company mergers, and other general, financial and commodities news.
The team also covers general and political news monitoring for several hubs, including the USCanada, UK, South Asia, and Africa hubs, during overnight hours (for the respective bureaus) and weekends. It also handles US/UK corporate news coverage during overnight hours on weekdays and throughout weekends.
About the Role :
As the Deputy EiC on the Global News Monitoring Team, you will:
- Use your sharp news judgement, strong writing skills, and the ability to tackle everything from corporate earnings stories to natural disasters and acts of terrorism.
- Multitask and juggle monitoring social media, news wires, websites, and blogs, breaking news and snips on important global stories.
- Remain calm under pressure and meet the team's accuracy and speed targets.
- Communicate and interact eƯectively with reporters, editors, media relations personnel and other stakeholders across the world.
- Have the ability and willingness to actively coach and mentor new staff.
- Manage and run the team in the absence of the EiC
- You will need to manage and do performance appraisals for the folks reporting to you.
About You:
You're a fit for the role of Deputy EiC on the Global News Monitoring Team if you have:
- Strong news judgment and excellent writing skills in English.
- Strong snapping skills or experience in a snapping/breaking news role.
- A willingness to work late shifts and if necessary, handle weekend shifts.
- Should have 6+ Years of experience
- A willingness to work out of the oƯice at least 3 days in a 5-day work week.
