The Washington Post seeks a versatile production engineer to manage the control room, studio builds and technical execution for an upcoming slate of new video shows. This role will anchor our daily operation and is central to building new forms of storytelling and audience engagement using multimedia.
We are looking for a candidate who combines journalistic rigor with an understanding of creator-era storytelling. This role will be the bridge between editorial vision and on-screen reality, ensuring that what our hosts say is matched by strong visuals, clean transitions and reliable studio performance. As we transition into more live, personality-driven formats, their technical execution will determine the pace, polish and professionalism of our productions.
This position will also play a key part in modernizing our studio ecosystem, helping us build scalable spaces and workflows for future shows and major upcoming launches. This will include advising on set design and layouts, as well as finding ways to make the most of existing spaces so they feel fresh and engaging.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in control rooms, ideally for shows designed and built for the internet. They will be nimble operators who can juggle a variety of production tasks with creativity and execution.

- Run control room for live and daily shoots.
- Handle camera switching, graphics cueing and troubleshooting.
- Review rundowns for missing assets before showtime.
- Collaborate on set improvements, lighting and gear purchases.
- Be the on-field camera operator for man on the streets and other one off shoots.
- Contribute to building out new studio spaces, including but not limited to advising on set-design, improving existing production spaces.
- 3-5 years work experience
- Has experience in live-show control rooms, preferably on digital shows made for the internet.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, which may include some mornings, evenings and occasional weekends.
- Experience with live-production software such as OBS, Streamlabs, and Wirecast, including managing remote setups, adding on-screen elements, and executing transitions.
- Experience operating cameras such as the Sony RX series, Blackmagic, and Sony A7S for field shoots.
- Understanding of cinematography principles, on-set and field videography, and strong composition fundamentals.

The salary range for this position is:
$85,100 - $127,700 Annual
The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
