The Opportunity: Grow Your Career.
The Merchandise Payables Accountant performs various accounting functions that relate to the maintenance of complete and accurate General Ledger, Stock Ledger and/or other subsidiary ledgers. The role Prepares weekly, monthly, and annual reporting, analysis and forecasting as required and completes accurate and timely GL account reconciliations and assesses ledger entries to ensure accuracy of financial information.
- Prepare General Ledger and Stock Ledger, forecasts and management reports detailing financial activity.
- Reconcile payables source systems to the General Ledger, identify and research variances of various liability accounts.
- Resolve issues, obtain information, and share results and recommendations with Treasury, Accounting, Financial Control, Cash Accounting, Distribution Centers, Logistics, and IT.
- Prepare manual journal entries submissions and monthly Stock Ledger maintenance.
- Enter receipt details for e-commerce Import POs and reconcile.
- Research Imports e-commerce purchase orders receiving for Marmaxx and HomeGoods|HomeSense determining write-off or vendor chargeback to reduce risk of potential financial exposure.
- Review and analyze Dynamic Discounting Program (C2FO) to ensure awarded dollars are captured and processed accordingly, and update Treasury for funding requirements.
- Process domestic payment runs for both checks and ACH.
- Validate and approve Vendor ACH file, determine and research any variance.
- Daily review of positive pay for potential fraudulent, duplicate, or voided check activity, and partner with Loss Prevention, as needed.
- Review cash reconciliation to identify potential fraud and ensure checks do not remain open or not accounted for.
- Reconcile Distribution Centers receiving feed to the MP system, address and resolve any issues.
- Address system issues timely to ensure GL and Cost of Goods is appropriate and participate in testing of any system fixes.
- Support management with audit requests for internal & external audits.
- Train new associates and support onboarding initiatives.
- Special projects, as assigned.
Who We're Looking for: You.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent job experience.
- 1-2 years in Accounting or Finance environment
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to build complex spreadsheets (such as pivot tables, macros etc.)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong analytical and written skills
