Principal Engineer - Oracle Platform(s)

About the Team:

The Oracle Platform(s) Team is the backbone of our enterprise Oracle database infrastructure, supporting mission-critical applications that are hosted on Oracle platforms: Exadata Cloud@Customer (EXACC), Exadata, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), ZFS, Oracle Key Vault (OKV), OCI, Oracle Databases, Goldengate and Weblogic. The team comprises seasoned Oracle Core and AppDBAs and System Administrators who ensure high availability, performance, and security of Oracle platforms.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the technical strategy and architecture of our Oracle platforms. This individual will serve as the technical authority and design owner, ensuring consistency, scalability, and compliance across all deployments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Oracle technologies, a strong architectural mindset, and the ability to influence and guide cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architecture & Design Leadership:
    • Define and maintain reference architectures for Oracle platforms (EXACC, Exadata, OCI, ZFS, OKV, database, Weblogic).
    • Own and manage design documentation, ensuring alignment with evolving business and technical requirements.
    • Identify and remediate design drift across environments.
  • Technical Direction & Governance:
    • Act as the go-to expert for all technical decisions related to Oracle infrastructure.
    • Provide strategic input on platform evolution, modernization, and integration with cloud services.
    • Lead technical reviews, design validations, and root cause analyses.
  • Platform Operations & Optimization:
    • Collaborate with DBAs and sysadmins to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security.
    • Drive automation and standardization across platform operations.
    • Oversee capacity planning and performance tuning.
  • Licensing & Compliance:
    • Manage Oracle licensing, ensuring cost-effective and compliant usage.
    • Partner with procurement and legal teams to track entitlements and usage metrics.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration:

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in Oracle Platform(s) Engineering
  • Proven experience designing and managing large-scale Oracle database platforms.
  • Deep understanding of Oracle licensing models and compliance practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Technologies (like EXACC/EXADATA, ZFS, OKV, and Oracle RAC/ASM, GoldenGate
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code, automation, and monitoring tools.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Oracle Certified Master (OCM) or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud or multi-cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to security and encryption technologies in Oracle environments.

This position has a starting salary range of $138,400.00 to $179,900.00 per year. Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual incentive as well as long-term incentives.
