About the Internship

Newark Redevelopment is responsible for the planning and delivery of the capital projects at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). As part of this internship, the selected candidate will have first-hand exposure in the planning and execution of several projects. Additionally, the selected candidate will have an opportunity to be involved in critical aspects of project delivery, including but not limited to: third-party coordination with internal and external stakeholders, community outreach, and coordination with Construction Management Divisions (CMD)

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering, planning, and monitoring of design and/or construction activities.
  • Provide support for the project through preparation of PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, reports, and other briefing materials.
  • Assist project controls staff with program documents.
  • Assist and support the monitoring of project activities producing status reports as required.
  • Support staff in tracking the approval process of procurement documents.
  • Attend project meetings as directed by staff.
  • Coordinate with third-party agencies to facilitate the construction for related EWR Redevelopment projects (ex. Amtrak, Conrail, NJ Transit, NJ Department of Transportation, City of Newark)
  • Oversight on AirTrain EWR Replacement Program and Station Access Project calendar milestones.
  • Develop and update project coordination schedules as appropriate.
  • Develop tracking charts for coordination, design and construction activities.
  • Shadow staff as requested at site visits and inspections.
  • Take meeting notes and produce professional site visit reports.
  • Research, learn and present Port Authority approved software that can be beneficial to the program.
  • Present a summary of the internship activities and/or assigned project at the end of the internship program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
  • Major in Engineering (Civil, Traffic, Structural, or a related discipline)

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to read and analyze complex engineering tools as needed

Internship Details

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
