About the Role
The Senior Engineer in the Port Department's Port Development team will play a key role in key tenant projects and the development of Port Capital projects, driving and growth development of the Port of New York and New Jersey. In this role, the Senior Engineer will lead the coordination of Tenant Alteration Application projects across the Port facilities, including at its major container terminals. The Senior Engineer will also develop Port Authority-funded projects for our own facilities, working closely with New Jersey Marine Terminal (NJMT) facility staff as well as the AMMP and capital teams to identify, scope, authorize and deliver projects that solve problems and improve our own infrastructure.
The position is primarily located at 260 Kellogg Street at Port Newark, with monthly and other occasional meetings at 4 World Trade Center.
Responsibilities
Serve as Tenant Coordinator for TAA projects, a role which includes, but is not limited to:
- Lead and facilitate project meetings and presentations.
- Engage with tenants, their Engineers and Architects of Record, their contractors, and relevant third parties to advance projects and solve problems.
- Engage with internal stakeholders for projects, including Engineering's Quality Assurance Division (QAD), Construction Management Division (CMD), Engineering and Architectural Design Division (EADD), other groups within the Port Department including Leasing, NJMT Operations and NJMT Physical Plant, among others.
- Manage projects in key systems, including Trimble, the digital platform used to handle documents and reviews for TAAs, and Microsoft Planner, used for internal tracking.
- Review project submissions and drawings to ensure complete submissions and appropriate responses to comments have been addressed.
- Develop Port Department projects, working with stakeholders around the Port to identify solutions for issues, develop scopes of work, cost estimates, and prepare projects to advance to the Capital Plan or to the Agency Major Maintenance Program (AMMP).
- On an occasional basis, act as project manager for identified capital projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Maritime, Business or related field.
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a Federal Security Background check and obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) to work in a maritime environment as required by Department of Homeland Security.
- Must have valid driver's license.
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer's License in New York or New Jersey.
- Demonstrated experience in reviewing engineering drawings, and utility exhibits.
- Knowledge of Port facilities and maritime industry
- Familiarity with Trimble and TCAP process
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated experience in presenting materials to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and follow new processes.
- Demonstrated ability to establish plans, set priorities and coordinate activities with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Acrobat, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey anticipates that the actual salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on aspects such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal factors. The expected compensation range for this role is:
Minimum: $ 110,474 Midpoint: $ 143,613 Maximum: $ 176,748
In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits employees to work remotely a maximum of one day per week, subject to operational and business needs.
