About the Role

  • Under the direct Supervision of the General Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate's responsibilities will include but are not limited to: planning, implementing, directing, scheduling, and coordinating the work of mostly semi-skilled maintenance staff. The successful candidate may supervise a limited number of skilled maintenance staff as well as contract staff.
  • This position is located at the Goethals Bridge Administration Building in Staten Island, New York.
  • This position will generally work the A Tour (10:30 pm to 6:30 am - Sunday Night through Thursday Night) but must be able to respond to and supervise snow removal and other facility emergencies on a a 24 hour/7 day a week basis, including holidays.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the optimal utilization of personnel, materials, equipment, and resources in achieving satisfactory maintenance and safety standards and will perform all Asset Management (i.e. Maximo) related scheduling.
  • Scheduling and assigning work; preparing reports, memorandums, and various logs prepared on a regular basis to communicate the status of personnel, vehicles, and material for projects and events; training and orientation of new employees in work methods; analyzing staffing and material requirements
  • Specifying equipment, material and work methods to be used; conducting and supervising inspections of facility conditions including but not limited to environmental compliance; and monitoring the status, condition & readiness of the maintenance vehicles & equipment.

Additional Information

  • The successful candidate is selected and accepts this position, the employee
    would become a permanent Port Authority FM Supervisor represented by PAMSA.
  • The selected candidate is required to participate in the Staten Island Bridges Snow Removal Program and must be able to respond to other emergency activities on a 24 hour / 7 day a week basis, and must be available to work any shift necessary, including weekends and holidays and work overtime as a regular function of the job.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with 1 year of paid full-time supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
  • All applicants that meet the above qualifications and have been selected for an interview, must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test prior. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.

Desired Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of maintenance equipment, procedures and the work methods of various trades; understand safety practices and related national codes; be able to read and plan work from drawings and be knowledgeable in environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BTU, IBEW and IUOE contracts, absence control policies, and the ability to interpret service contracts.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a crew of semi-skilled employees to ensure that work orders are completed efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise contract staff.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently and prioritize assignments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in various computer programs including Asset Management (i.e. Maximo), Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Effective record keeping experience.
