About the Internship

The Office of the Chief Operating Officer oversees operations at the Port Authority's five lines of business: Aviation; PATH; Port; Tunnels, Bridges & Terminals; and World Trade Center as well as the Operations Services Department with the vision of being a world-class operator of world-class facilities. This internship will contribute to projects related to business performance and innovation, customer experience, and financial analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop reports and presentations to support facility engagement on topics relating to procurement, absent management, budget management, and workforce strategy
  • Engage with Departments across the agency to support process mapping and change management initiatives to support implementation of new or enhanced technologies and various priority projects
  • Advance data analytic efforts to develop new tools and reports, including through the use of AI, in an effort to help increase employee productivity
  • Assist in tracking project plans, milestones, deliverables, and schedules for projects tied to the agency's strategic working groups and customer experience programs
  • Support the coordination and execution of various cross-departmental working group initiatives, including agency-wide efforts to identify efficiencies and cost savings
  • Assist with special projects and assignments as needed

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
  • Major in Urban Planning, Architecture, Public Policy, Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, Political Science, or a related discipline

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to working in the public sector
  • Ability to work independently on complex assignments and to work in a fast-paced team environment on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills

Internship Details

  • The start date is expected to be Thursday, May 28, 2026
  • This internship will require 36.25 hours/week during the summer and 30-36.25 hours/week during the school year
  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.61 to $28.72 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
