As a Staff or Sr. Staff Attorney for The Hartford you will join a collaborative learning environment where you will have direct contact with our Claims Professionals all while working from home. Our in-house, remote work opportunity is well-suited for an Attorney who is dedicated to the practice of law and committed to excellent customer service. This position will travel to workers' compensation districts within Connecticut. The Senior Attorney/Staff Attorney will handle the following key responsibilities:

- Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and develop well-reasoned legal research
- Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients
- Independently prepare pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs as necessary in the Workers. Compensation forum in support of defense strategies
- Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our client including involvement in strategy sessions and settlement conferences with our partners
- Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to Claim Partners and clients on legal and factual issues per reporting guidelines and SOPs
- Communicate professionally with the districts, commissioners, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel
- Facilitate prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases through timely negotiated stipulation agreements or through Formal Hearings
- Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at Formal Hearings within the CT Workers' Compensation forum
- Attend continuing legal education seminars and keep up independently with changes in the law related to the practice
QUALIFICATIONS:
Note- This position may be filled as a Staff Attorney or a Senior Staff Attorney commensurate with a candidate's experience. Qualified Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling Workers' Compensation cases
- JD from accredited law school and license to practice in Connecticut
- Formal Hearing experience is preferred
- Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) as well as an understanding of AI tools and experience using them
- Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills to manage a fast-paced practice
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required, including litigation management tools/systems
Qualified Senior Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:
- Minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers' Compensation cases
- JD from accredited law school and license to practice in Connecticut
- Formal Hearing experience is preferred
- Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) as well as an understanding of AI tools and experience using them
- Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills to manage a fast-paced practice
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required, including litigation management tools/systems
WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME?
This position is a remote work opportunity however our selected candidate will travel up to 5 days per week within Connecticut.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$114,800 - $192,000
The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
