The Small Business Territory Manager candidate will work with existing and prospective Independent Agencies to develop profitable business and sources of new business. The Small Business Territory Manager will be responsible for the building and execution of an effective Agency Management sales plan to achieve maximum production and profit goals in assigned territory.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-person meetings and phone sales calls with agents to achieve or surpass sales targets for growth, maintain a balanced portfolio of business, and ensure high renewal rates within assigned territories.
  • Creates demand and enables agents/producers to maximize the flow of desirable business to meet or exceed Hartford financial goals in the territory
  • Drives demand and empowers agents/producers to consistently generate and increase the volume of high-quality business, ensuring Hartford's financial objectives for the territory are met or exceeded.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with agents/producers in an assigned territory to meet or exceed the financial objectives for that territory.
  • Enables agents/producers to maximize their revenue through the sale of Hartford products and services by providing tools and information that differentiates The Hartford and its overall value proposition from competitors.
  • Empowers agents and producers to optimize their revenue by offering comprehensive tools, resources, and insights that clearly distinguish Hartford's products and services from competitors. By highlighting Hartford's unique value proposition, agents are equipped to effectively position and sell our solutions, driving greater success and profitability.
  • Exercises discipline and focus on flow management to ensure adequate flow and an acceptable mix of business to meet agency and company growth and profit objectives.
  • Develops strategic call plans that prioritize agency outreach and engagement, optimizing each interaction to ensure a consistent pipeline of high-quality business opportunities and sustainable growth.
  • Builds comprehensive Agency Sales Plans that are strategically aligned with Hartford's financial goals for growth, retention, and profitability. Leverages advanced data analytics tools to track plan performance, effectively communicate progress, and proactively implement targeted actions to drive results.
  • Efficiently manages sales administration tasks by ensuring timely and accurate reporting, as well as diligent expense tracking and management.
  • Adheres to a disciplined sales methodology, consistently applying Sales Excellence principles to drive superior outcomes.
  • Displays an in-depth understanding of the assigned territory, identifying the optimal number and mix of agents and producers with the potential to achieve and exceed territorial financial goals.
  • Leverages comprehensive industry expertise, keen awareness of market conditions, and competitor intelligence to strategically position the agency for maximum business growth. Effectively aligns Hartford's strategies, tools, initiatives, and resources to continually expand market share and foster sustained success.

Qualifications:

The Ideal Candidate Has;

  • 5+ years of P&C experience, marketing experience and sales skills; underwriting knowledge is beneficial. Candidates lacking this experience may be considered for an alternate titled position.
  • Proven outstanding sales performance; should be a highly driven and self-motivated individual with a strong desire to win.
  • Experience with Agency training.
  • Exceptional sales and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to motivate people.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Ability to travel within assigned territory.
  • A Company car will be provided; a valid Driver's license is required.
  • The ideal candidate will reside anywhere within commuting distance of this sales territory.
  • Position is eligible for the base salary as well as for a highly lucrative and competitive quarterly bonus and a company vehicle.

The ideal candidate will bring;

  • Minimum of five years of proven success in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance, with demonstrated expertise in marketing, product knowledge, and sales. Underwriting experience is highly valued. Candidates with less experience may be considered for alternative roles.
  • A strong track record of surpassing sales targets, showcasing exceptional drive, self-motivation, and a commitment to achieving outstanding results.
  • Hands-on experience in delivering impactful training for agencies, ensuring agents are fully prepared with the skills and knowledge needed to excel.
  • Advanced skills with Salesforce and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote), supporting sales operations and business efficiency.
  • Exceptional capabilities in sales, negotiation, and persuasion, enabling acquisition of new business and development of enduring client relationships.
  • A natural talent for motivating and inspiring others to achieve and exceed ambitious sales goals.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational abilities, adept at prioritizing and multitasking in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders across all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously while maintaining a high standard of accountability and professionalism.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the designated sales territory.
  • A valid driver's license is required; a company-provided vehicle will be available for business travel.
  • Residence within reasonable commuting distance of the assigned sales territory is preferred.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$84,000 - $126,000
