As a part of the Group Benefit software engineering team, this position is accountable for driving the maturity of software engineering quality across the value stream. As a software engineer with core focus on quality assurance, quality control and reliability, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating QA-related initiatives, test automations, and end-to-end QA efforts to ensure quality of the software products, reports, dashboards & APIs. This role would also be responsible for designing and leading the QA aspects of our DevOps and CI/CD pipeline.

You will also collaborate with scrum teams, software engineering and business teams to increase functional and non-functional test coverage, optimize automated test execution, achieve faster release readiness, and contribute to overall reporting key quality metrics.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to quality engineering activities QA strategy, roadmap, automation, control, and testing best practices including test automation, test script development, performance testing, etc.
  • Design, develop, review, and maintain test artifacts such as test cases, frameworks, code library, common capabilities, to improve quality engineering best practices and meet expected quality standards.
  • Develop automated Test Data Management capabilities, recommend QA automations, and integrate QA initiatives within DevOps and CI/CD process.
  • Oversee and coordinate QA-related initiatives and risk based end-to-end test strategies end-to-end QA efforts across value stream to ensure quality of the software products, reports, dashboards & APIs.
  • Provide technical leadership to Scrum team to adopt shift left approach in testing. Maintain overall accountability for department's adherence to testing standards, best practices, documentation, and key metrics to improve product quality.
  • Provide data-driven insights into test coverage, defects, test stability, risks, making actionable recommendations and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the quality software engineering activities throughout every phase of the SDLC and participate in end-to-end quality gating as a part of Continuous deployment and Continuous testing processes.
  • Resolve escalations regarding QA strategy, test planning, data, estimation, deliverables, and environment. Provide QA related guidance and coaching.

Qualifications:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, and 3+ years of experience in leading Quality engineering teams.
  • 3+ years of experience in core software engineering programing language such as .Net and C#
  • 3+ years of experience in core software engineering scripting language such as JavaScript, Node.js, TypeScript, etc.
  • Experience with Test automation tools - Playwright, Selenium, JMeter, CA TDM
  • Thorough understanding of tools and practices that supports DevOps, CI/CD and Agile Scrum/SAFE methodology.
  • Demonstrates ability to influence and motivate a diverse team and effectively lead others through change.

Nice to Have:

  • Insurance and Financial Services experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AWS or other cloud technology is preferred.

Additional Details:
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$101,280 - $151,920
