The Hartford Excess Solution group is seeking an Executive Team Lead who will lead and manage our Atlanta, GA team. This dynamic and experienced leader will bring expertise to the underwriting of commercial Umbrella & Excess line of business.
The role involves leading a team of production underwriters within the Atlanta Regional office with duties to achieve new business production goals, maintain a renewal book of business, attract, retain and develop Hartford Excess Solution underwriting talent and assist in managing a network of distribution partners. The Executive Team Lead will report to the East Region Leader within the Hartford Excess Solution department.
Underwriting Excellence
- Has demonstrated experience successfully underwriting complex Umbrella & Excess new business
- Acts with higher levels of underwriting authority and expertly applies all applicable Underwriting guidelines when making decisions
- Ensures that underwriting practices and guidelines are understood and adhered to, with a focus on pricing, risk selection, mix of business, flow management and quality analysis
- Handles referrals for team and in partnership with other management resources
- Provides coaching to developing underwriter prior to account being referred

Sales
- Maintains successful and profitable book of business for territory
- Serves as sales leader for specified territory which includes responsibility for territory financials/sales plan
- Generates robust pipeline/prospects to meet line of business appetite and achieve operating plan commitments
- Leads by example with individual sales execution strategies
- Manages business development initiatives with territory in partnership with local leadership
Partner Management
- Conducts target broker sales planning and coaches underwriters within region; helps team develop stronger sales acumen through coaching
- Serves as internal leadership point of contact for specified partners demonstrating superior relationships with regional vice presidents
- Consults and provides Umbrella & Excess solutions for brokers
- Connects with the broader territory goals and objectives
Leadership and Talent Development
- Serves as day to day contact for underwriters in region, regardless of official reporting relationships, serving as knowledge resource to develop high performing underwriting team
- Provides input towards underwriter performance reviews within assigned territory
- Responsible for coaching and mentoring underwriters
- Supports talent pipelining and recruiting efforts, participates in interview and onboarding process
- Participates in leadership meetings at division and national levels
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years industry experience, with 5+ years of commercial Umbrella & Excess underwriting experience preferred
- Able to make high-quality, well-executed decisions in a timely and efficient manner
- Demonstrates effective business communication skills, consultative skills, relationship management, presentation skills and strong decision-making abilities
- Prior people leadership and management experience preferred
- Thorough attention to detail and strong underwriting documentation
- Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent experience
Location:
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in the Alpharetta, GA office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$132,000 - $198,000
