The Director, Enterprise Financial Planning & Analysis, will lead the Enterprise FP&A team, and report to SVP, CFO, Business Insurance, Claims & Employee Benefits. They will be a self-motivated problem solver who brings relevant financial analysis experience, excellent communication skills, business orientation, and intellectual curiosity to their work. The Director will build and grow effective working relationships at all levels of the organization, adding value as a partner to the businesses and the senior leadership team. They will be responsible for leading strategic financial initiatives across the enterprise and consolidated reporting to leadership, the board, and external constituents. The position requires a strong command of US GAAP accounting, financial planning, analysis, and reporting, with an emphasis on cross-functional collaboration and enterprise-level influence.

The preferred location for this role is our Hartford, CT Home office. Other Hartford hub locations including NY, Boston, San Antonio, Charlotte, and Chicago may also be considered. This is a hybrid role, in the office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership to drive business performance as directed by the CFO, Business Insurance, Claims and Employee Benefits (includes annual baseline/upside modeling provided to the Board, M&A opportunities, and other predictive modeling).
  • Lead financial planning and forecasting cycles for the enterprise; produce enterprise/consolidated reporting.
  • Oversee and produce monthly and quarterly actuals enterprise/consolidated financial reporting to be delivered to the CEO, President, and Corporate CFO, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Partner with Controllers and Investor Relations.
  • Produce periodic financial reporting to be delivered by the Corporate CFO to The Hartford's Board of Directors.
  • Produce periodic reporting to external constituents including Rating Agencies, the CT Department of Insurance, etc.
  • Calculate and assess the appropriateness of annual AIP and LTI payouts along with the related monthly accrual, communicating with Controllers and HR.
  • Partner with Stewardship, Innovation and Quality Control team on TM1 Change Control Tickets.
  • Lead, develop and mentor a team of two finance professionals, fostering growth and accountability.
  • Support enterprise initiatives including transformation, automation, and data modernization.
  • Represent finance in cross-functional forums and enterprise planning sessions.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in an accounting or finance role in a large corporate setting, with progressive experience in roles requiring financial reporting and analysis skills. Experience in Property & Casualty and/or Employee Benefits insurance preferred.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting with expertise in financial reporting completeness and accuracy; public accounting experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading with inspiration, aspiration, impact, and authenticity with minimum of two+ years direct leadership experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic outcomes, through problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling and scenario planning; ability to be a strong thought partner.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills (including both development of materials and delivery).
  • Experience with enterprise financial systems and data tools (e.g., TM1, Peoplesoft, Hyperion, SAP, Tableau).
  • Advanced skills in Excel, including developing use of CoPilot and Advanced Analytics. Affinity towards next generation financial analysis tools including Generative AI, robotics or other productivity enhancing tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, adapt, and thrive in a changing business landscape and to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field required, MBA or CPA designation preferred.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$132,800 - $199,200
