Director, Business Operations - Pricing & Valuation

This position is within HIMCO Business Operations, which is responsible for the comprehensive operational support of HIMCO's Investment Operating Platform including the underlying Investment (IBOR) and Accounting (ABOR) Book of Record. The Director, Business Operations position is being offered to fill an opening on HIMCO's Pricing Team. The Pricing Team is responsible for determining accurate valuations for assets managed by HIMCO and works in partnership with HIMCO's Front Office, Risk Management, Investment Finance, and Business Operations Teams. The candidate will be involved in many different aspects of HIMCO's Pricing and Valuation processes with a focus on developing and maintaining internal valuation models for hard to value investments including private placement bonds, direct middle market loans, commercial mortgage loans, private equity, and derivatives.

As a condition of your employment for HIMCO, you will be required to affirm to HIMCO's Code of Ethics and understand that you will be required to comply with the disclosure of accounts, holdings, and pre-clearance of trades for the accounts of you and your household family members as more fully described in the Code of Ethics Key Points. If you will be deemed to be a "Covered Associate" under HIMCO's Pay to Play Policy, you will also need to disclose all political contributions that you have given within the past 2 calendar years.

WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?

  • Develop and maintain internal pricing models for hard to value investments including private placement bonds, direct middle market loans, commercial mortgage loans, private equity, and derivatives.
  • Document and test pricing methodologies used in HIMCO's internal pricing models to ensure adherence with best practices for private asset valuation.
  • Prepare and present recommendations for new pricing models, model updates, and testing results to HIMCOs Valuation Committee, risk management, audit partners, and senior management.
  • Coordinate HIMCO's price challenge processes with pricing vendors.
  • Investigate and respond to ad-hoc pricing and valuation requests from internal and external clients.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve and optimize workflows.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline. An MBA and/or CFA is a plus.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Investment Operations, Investment Middle Office, Risk Management, or related roles. Prior experience with asset pricing models is highly desired.
  • High proficiency in MS Excel is required. Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, relational databases, querying languages, VBA, and report automation is a plus.
  • Highly organized with a strong desire to learn.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities with effective time management skills.
  • Demonstrated record of problem-solving and critical thinking with strong analytical skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, coupled with meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrates proactive ownership of issues, readily recommending solutions and taking charge to resolve them.
  • Dedicated to delivering outstanding customer service and exceptional support to both internal and external clients.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$115,360 - $173,040
