The BI Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining advanced business intelligence solutions that transform raw data into actionable insights. This role requires expertise in Tableau for data visualization, strong SQL skills for data modeling and optimization, and experience with ETL/ELT tools to ensure efficient data integration. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, problem solver, and critical thinker who can collaborate across teams and communicate insights effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Report & Dashboard Development
    • Design, develop and maintain advanced Tableau dashboards and SSRS reports.
    • Ensure visualizations are intuitive, performant, and aligned with business goals.
    • Apply business practices in data visualization to communicate complex data effectively.
  • Data Modeling & SQL Development
    • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions.
    • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and performance across reporting solutions.
    • Work with ETL/ELT tools to prepare and transform data for reporting.
    • Collaborate with data engineering teams to maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines.
  • Performance Optimization
    • Monitor and improve dashboard performance.
    • Tune SQL queries and Tableau extracts for scalability.

    • Partner with data operation engineer, analysts, and architects to design scalable data solutions.
    • Provide guidance on BI best practices and data-driven decision-making.
    • Contribute to documentation, standards, and knowledge sharing across the team.
    • Partner with business stakeholders and technical teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions aligned with business objectives.

Qualifications / Requirements:

Required

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • 7+ years in BI development, data analytics, or related roles.

  • Advanced proficiency in Tableau (Desktop and Server).
  • Strong SQL skills, including stored procedures, views, and functions.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools (dbt, Talend, Matillion, or similar).
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and cloud platforms (Snowflake, AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices and version control (e.g., Git).
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and data modeling.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication and storytelling skills.
    • Self-starter with curiosity and critical thinking mindset.

  • Preferred

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

    $120,000 - $150,000
