Bureau/Division Overview
We seek candidates who are passionate about learning new skills, comfortable with challenges, and eager to see how the compliance with the tax, child support, and municipal finance laws of the Commonwealth positively impacts Massachusetts.
Position Summary
The intern will work closely with the Deputy Director of DOR's Office of Ethics & Employee Responsibility on projects supporting the office's audit preparation and the review and updating of internal procedures. This role offers hands-on experience assisting with documentation, compliance readiness, and process improvement initiatives. In addition, the intern may assist with special projects relative to physical security.

Core Responsibilities
- Gather and review internal OEER procedures to ensure compliance with external audits expected of OEER (DCJIS, IRS, FBI, etc.).
- Identify areas for streamlining internal practices, policies, and procedures.
- To ensure compliance with IRS Publication 1075, assist in the reconciliation of assigned-employee building access.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pursuing bachelor's in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Finance, Public Affairs, and other related degrees.
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Results-oriented, with keen attention to details
- High degree of organizational skills and problem-solving ability
- Ability to learn new concepts and technologies quickly and independently
- General computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
An external candidate recommended for a position with the Department of Revenue will be subject to a background check that includes checks for: state and federal tax compliance; child support compliance; education verification; Massachusetts CORI checks; criminal background checks in state(s) of current and previous residence/employment; validation of eligibility to work in the United States; and national fingerprint-based criminal background checks.
