Job Description
Tewksbury Hospital is accepting applications for Security Team Specialist I. This role is essential to maintaining a secure and supportive campus where patients, residents, staff, and visitors feel safe and cared for. Working across a large hospital setting, the Security Team Specialist I plays an active part in campus safety operations. The position provides hands-on experience in healthcare security and behavioral de-escalation.

Please Note: This position is available on the 2nd shift, 40 hours per week, from 3:00 pm-11:00 pm. Regular days off are Sunday and Monday.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Patrol hospital buildings, grounds, and surrounding areas at regular intervals to maintain a safe and secure environment and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Monitor for and respond to safety concerns including trespassing, theft, property damage, and potential harm to individuals, coordinating with local or state law enforcement and first responders when necessary.
- Provide custodial supervision and escort services for medically ill and mentally challenged patients, residents, and clients to appointments, admissions, discharges, and other designated locations throughout the campus.
- Conduct searches for missing patients, individuals, or property, including assisting with the return of patients who are absent without authorization (AWA).
- Respond to medical, behavioral, and facility-related emergencies, focusing on de-escalation and ensuring the safety of patients, residents, staff, and visitors.
- Investigate incidents by gathering information, interviewing involved parties, and preparing detailed written and electronic reports and logs.
- Perform visitor screening and security checks in accordance with hospital policies and maintain access control across the campus.
- Inspect buildings, grounds, fire lanes, and emergency exits to ensure compliance with safety standards and identify potential hazards.
- Enforce traffic and parking regulations, direct traffic flow, assist pedestrians and disabled vehicles, and support safe campus transportation operations.
- Operate security and communication equipment, maintain records and documentation, support hospital events and drills, and collaborate with hospital staff, police, and emergency personnel to support overall campus safety.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working in healthcare, behavioral health, or human services environment.
Required qualifications:
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in emergency, stressful, or emotionally charged situations
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals experiencing physical, emotional, or behavioral challenges
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work respectfully with diverse populations
- Ability to gather information through observation, interviews, and review of records or documentation
- Ability to prepare clear, accurate written reports and maintain detailed records
- Ability to follow, interpret, and enforce policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Basic computer proficiency, including working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have (A) at least one (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in work involving the protection and/or security of buildings, equipment or individuals, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Applicants applying for positions within the Department of Youth Services, Department of Mental Health and Department of Public Health are required to obtain and maintain a valid certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and first aid. Additionally, applicants applying for positions within the Department of Youth Services are required to obtain and maintain a valid certification in crisis intervention and suicide prevention.

Substitutions:
I. An Associate's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
