SRB:
The State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 11 regional programs. It establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs are safe and effective.
Job Description:
Research Assistants will be assigned by the Director of Operations and/or Executive Director to the Staff Entomologist, Staff Biologist, and/or Wetland Project Coordinator (or a combination thereof) and are directly responsible to them in addition to the Director of Operations and the Executive Director. Research Assistants receive instruction and direction on research projects, efficacy studies and wetland projects, including but not limited to the following:
- Will coordinate and/or carry out all research projects.
- Prepare reports and presentations as directed.
- Will assist in wetland project as directed.
- Will perform field inspections in the area of larval and adult mosquito surveillance among the towns in the CMMCP service area.
- Will assist the Staff Entomologist with the operation of the larval and adult mosquito surveillance program as needed.
- Set and collect mosquito traps throughout the district.
- Basic familiarity with GIS.
- May be required to attain license to apply pesticide to catch basins.
- To assist in any other office or field tasks that may arise.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds over uneven terrain. Experience with computers including Microsoft Word and Excel. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License and a good driving record.
Research Assistants at CMMCP are contracted, seasonal positions whose daily hours or length of service may be modified at the discretion of the Executive Director but not to exceed 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.

Previous related experience. Applicant shall be in possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license. Applicants must have a clean driving record and be willing to furnish a printed copy upon request. Applicant must be willing to submit to a test for illegal drugs or alcohol at any time during employment. Applicant must be able to lift and carry 50+ pounds for extended periods of time over rough terrain. Applicant must be able to speak, read and understand the English language in verbal and written form. Experience with computers including Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to read and understand maps and their layout is required. Ability to send and receive instructions over radio and cell phones is required. Ability to coordinate with the public in a professional manner is required. Good work attendance and adherence to work instructions is required.

Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP): CMMCP was created by the Massachusetts State Legislature in 1973, and currently consists of 43 cities and towns in Central Massachusetts, from both Worcester and Middlesex Counties, covering over 785 square miles from the NH to the RI & CT borders. CMMCP's headquarters is located at 111 Otis Street in Northborough, MA. CMMCP employs Integrated Pest Management (IPM), blending state of the art methods with expertise, experience, and scientific research using environmentally sound practices and cost effective mosquito control techniques, thus reducing mosquito annoyance and the potential for the transmission of mosquito-borne diseases to residents of our member communities.
