DPU:

The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is the state agency responsible for overseeing investor-owned electric power, natural gas, and water companies in Massachusetts. It regulates the safety of bus companies, moving companies, transportation network companies, and oversees the safety of natural gas pipelines and the MBTA.

Job Description:

  • Reviews complaints, reports, documents and other pertinent information received from the public, agency personnel, and industry officials concerning alleged violations of law, rules, regulations to determine appropriateness of the complaint, appropriate action to be taken and/r referral to an appropriate agency.
  • Maintain liaison with other agency personnel in order to provide information concerning and encourage compliance with relevant laws, rules, and regulations and to respond to all inquiries in order to provide information concerning agency policies and procedures.
  • Obtain evidence and establish facts concerning complaints and alleged noncompliance with laws, rules, regulations by interviewing individuals, conducting on-site inspections for compliance and validity of complaints, and to prepare evidence or documentation for appropriate action.
  • Conducts investigations on such matters carriers operating without a proper tariff, carriers providing services or charging rates not reflected in their tariff, and carriers not comply with Department policies and/or recommend corrective action.
  • Make recommendations concerning policies and procedures governing agency activities and on such matters as ways to improve the tariff and registration process and regulatory policies, rules and regulations; perform related duties such as maintaining records, responding to inquiries concerning unit activities, testifying at hearings and providing information to interested parties.
  • Prepare reports and conduct reviews. Confer with company officials to effect compliance within prescribed deadlines.
  • Performs related duties as required.


Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in investigatory, law enforcement or regulatory administration work, or (B) and equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

A Bachelor's or higher degree may be substituted for the required experience.

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
