Job Description:
The MEPA Data & Process Optimization Intern will support efforts to streamline completeness review and data tracking processes, advanced Excel techniques and AI tools (as available). The intern will assist in improving the population and organization of multiple spreadsheets using information from online and PDF application materials. This position offers hands-on experience with environmental regulatory processes and the use of data systems to support environmental justice and environmental policy implementation.
Job Duties:
- Learn the requirements of various MEPA filing processes.
- Transfer and reconcile data between application forms, supporting materials, and tracking spreadsheets.
- Assist in organizing, structuring, and standardizing datasets to improve workflow efficiency.
- Utilize Excel and AI tools to automate and streamline data entry and tracking processes.
- Assist in compiling tabulating MEPA project information to test emerging environmental data tools.
- Collaborate with the MEPA Environmental Justice Liaison to analyze trends and summarize findings to help inform updates to Environmental Justice protocols and policies.
- Support the MEPA team in achieving data management and process optimization goals.
- Gain exposure to the MEPA review process and the role of data in advancing environmental policy objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate student in environmental policy, public policy, data analytics, environmental science, or a related field.
- Strong Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data validation, data cleaning).
- Background or coursework in data analysis.
- Interest in environmental policy and regulatory processes.

Salary Rate: $21.00
Weekly Hours: 25 hours
