IT Business Operations, MGC
Job Description
Under the direction of the Chief Information Officer of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), the Business Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting the Information Technology Services (ITS) team by collaborating with relevant departments (such as Finance, Legal and Human Resources) on procurements, accounts payable, operations processes, and procedures. This position is responsible for maintaining contracts, licenses, inventory, coordinating staff meetings, conducting training sessions, and conferring with other parties concerning accounting-related matters.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Collaborate with Finance department to resolve accounting discrepancies and/or obtain statistical data and documentation for various reports and/or projects
• Prepare and maintain accounts and records such as purchase order database, contractor spending/invoicing, software licenses, asset inventory, maintenance contracts, etc.
• Review IT procurement procedures to ensure conformance with established reporting requirements, compliance with Commission and statewide contracts using Commbuys platform as applicable
• Coordinate and conduct technical instruction for MGC employees
• Act as a support person for Chief Information Officer and perform special projects or prepare reports as required and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Ability to prepare general reports, use charts, graphs, and tables
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to multitask
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Application Suite and SharePoint Online
• Hands-on working knowledge of end-user support in a desktop role or technology environment
Experience, Education, and Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to build and maintain professional relationships
A successful candidate for this position has passed an extensive background check conducted by the Massachusetts State Police. The background check includes a full credit check, CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), fingerprinting, drug test, reference checks, review of IRS Income Tax Transcripts for the last four years, and a Certificate of Good Standing from the Massachusetts Dept. of Revenue (DOR).

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is responsible for the implementation of the expanded gaming law (Chapter 194 of the Acts of 2011) and regulatory oversight of G.L. chapter 23K (casino gaming), chapter 23N (sports wagering), and chapter 128A (horse racing) . Under these laws, the Commission is tasked with establishing a regulatory framework for the solicitation, licensing, taxation, and oversight of a maximum of three casino licenses and one slots parlor only license, the provision of in-person and digital sports wagering, and the live and simulcasting of horse racing in Massachusetts.
